CHAPEL HILL - A Lewisburg boy drowned Thursday evening in the Duck River between a Henry Horton State Park boat ramp and the Nashville Highway bridge over the river. WMI: Cedar Ridge polluting stream (07/01/09)
Waste Management Inc., the company that operates Cedar Ridge Landfill just west of Lewisburg, says its leaders believe the landfill is the source of pollution in the water and creek bed down stream from Vickrey Spring near Poteet Road. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation was asked if the pollution at Vickrey Spring, its tributary to East Fork Globe Creek and the creek would have an effect on its decision on the landfill's expansion. Woman indicted on arson charge (07/01/09)
A Marshall County woman turned herself in after learning that the Grand Jury had indicted her on charges of aggravated arson and burning personal property. According to the indictment, Tawyna Gail Eady, 41, of Creek Drive, is alleged to have intentionally set fire to her residence "when one or more persons were present within the structure," and also to her 2006 Chrysler on June 2. ...
$50 fee proposed to cover landfill shortfall (07/01/09)
A $50 annual fee is being proposed by Marshall County's Solid Waste Committee to cover a shortfall in county revenue from Cedar Ridge Landfill.
