Valentine: What if Republican had struck reporter? (06/18/10)
U.S. Rep. Bobby Etheridge (D-NC) should be in jail. I don't say that lightly. It's one thing to make a mistake. It's another thing entirely to assault someone out of sheer arrogance. But, he's not in jail. Instead, he merely issued an apology for his outrageous behavior and the mainstream media appear to have accepted it. As is so typical of the biased reporters, instead of demanding that Etheridge be prosecuted they have turned their sites on the origins of the video...

Petersburg Piddlings (06/18/10)
Blane Tankersley recently took what might be the last Gulf fishing trip for him for a while, due to the now infamous oil spill edging its way around the coast. I shouldn't say infamous yet, because I think as the days have passed, the ecological disaster is just now really sinking in for most of us. ...

Hello to all. This heat is hard to live with; hope all are staying in and staying cool. It is pretty good for drying out hay though. As they say, you need to make hay while the sun shines. I hope all of this heat doesn't lead to any bad storms, but we could use a little rain to cool things off...

Attorney's job 'on the line' (06/18/10)
It would appear that most of Lewisburg's councilmen want a different city attorney, although a more perfect indication could be available on Tuesday when the council meets to adopt another annual budget. Mayor Barbara Woods called City Attorney Bill Haywood on June 11, telling him about a consensus of the councilmen during budget deliberations on June 10. No vote has been taken yet. City attorney is one of three positions filled by the council...

In a couple of months, John Cook Jr. will have been president of Dole Refrigeration for a year. Editorial: Recognizing privileges of our youth (06/18/10)
The boy who desecrated a monument for those who gave their lives during military service for our country is apparently willing to apologize for throwing the plaque in Rock Creek about three months ago. However, he does not want to be named publicly. Perhaps that reflects shame. If so, it may also prove to have been a learning experience. That is one of the purposes of the juvenile court system in this state...

Dear Marshall County, I apologize for the disrespect that I may have shown to anyone, or to a veteran or their family by participating in throwing a war memorial off of a bridge.
