Town board's salary set for vote Thursday (08/11/10)
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday, and plans to vote Thursday, to start paying members $150 per month, a salary similar to other town boards. If aldermen don't vote on Thursday to adopt the ordinance that creates their salary and pay rate, then it will be too late for the new law to take effect in time for the recently elected officials who start their terms in September.
Schools Director spared reprimand (08/11/10)
ounty school board members nearly issued an official reprimand on Monday night to the director of schools they hired nearly 11 months ago. Board member Barbara Kennedy's motion to reprimand Roy Dukes failed 5-3, with only Kristen Gold, who seconded the motion, Harvey Jones, and Kennedy voting for it.
Minor earns major league stripes in debut (Updated) (08/11/10)
Chapel Hill's Mikie Minor made his major league debut with the Atlanta Braves Monday night at Tropicana Field in Houston and came away with a no-decision, going six innings before leaving the game with the score tied 4-4. Forrest Athletic Director Scott Delk invited fans of all ages in Chapel Hill to a barbeque and to watch Minor on TV and they were not disappointed as Minor was nothing short of spectacular, surrendering just three earned runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one and hitting one batter.
