Liggett runs away with Saddle Creek golf title (08/01/12)
The Saddle Creek Men's Golf Association (MGA) held their club championship event this past weekend and Joe Liggett ran away with the title, finishing eight shots clear of second place. Liggett fired a three-under par 69 (30-39) in the first round on Saturday and followed that up with a solid five-under par 67 (32-35) in round two on Sunday for a 136 total. Defending champion Mike Tankersley shot an even par total of 74-70 for a second place finish.
Bellevue bounces Marshall County from Southeast Regional (08/01/12)
On Friday morning, Marshall County was knocked out of the 11-year old Cal Ripken Southeast Regional tournament when they were defeated 15-4 in four innings by East Tennessee state champ Bellevue in the first round of the loser's bracket at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in Lewisburg. Aided by a 10-run first inning, Bellevue finished with 16 hits and four walks against two Marshall County pitchers while belting three homeruns.
South Florida outslugs Marshall County (08/01/12)
Oviedo, FL turned in an impressive power display on Thursday morning, as the South Florida state champs belted six homeruns en route to defeating tourney host Marshall County 16-4 in four innings at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in the first round of the 11-year old Cal Ripken Southeast Regional tournament. Bolstered by an eight-run first inning, Oviedo finished with 12 hits and three walks against three Marshall County pitchers to go along with three hit batsmen and three MC errors.
King captures Blue Ribbon in walking horse event (08/01/12)
On July 22, Alexis King of Cornersville won the first place blue ribbon in the Youth English Equitation 17 years and under Canter class at the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' and Exhibitors' Association (TWBEA) World Versatility Show in Murfreesboro. Under the direction of certified riding instructor Barbara Civils of Belfast, King is preparing for the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in Shelbyville in August. King is the daughter of Steven and Kimberly King of Cornersville and is the granddaughter of Bobby and Mae Bills of Cornersville and Jerry and Donna King of Lewisburg. King will be a sophomore at Cornersville High School this year.
