Pitt County does in stars again
anny Hollingsworth and the Marshall County all-stars ran into their old nemesis Pitt County Tuesday night and once again the purple clad NC squad eliminated the orange and white in a 16-3 run-rule loss in the winner's bracket final of the 12U Babe Ruth World Series in Alachua, FL.
"My God, we threw everybody at them and just could not slow them down," said Hollingsworth. "They are such a well-coached team and we knew that coming in."
Winning the third place hardware was the best ever finish for any Marshall County girls' all-star team.
Marshall County goes toe-to-toe with Lodi
Even though they lost 5-4 to undefeated and national powerhouse Lodi, CA, in Monday night's winner's bracket final, the Marshall County all-stars showed true grit, determination, stellar sportsmanship and the heart of champions.
"These girls never quit, never gave up, never thought they were out of the game and the coaches never thought they were out of the game," said Marshall County manager Danny Hollingsworth.
Marshall County secures some hardware
The Marshall County all-stars jumped out to an early 3-0 first inning lead over Prairie Village, KY in an all-important winner's bracket contest on Monday night and then held on for a 4-1 win, securing at least a third place finish at the 12U Babe Ruth World Series in Alachua, FL.
"Once again, our pitching was absolutely outstanding and our defense was unbelievable," said Marshall County manager Danny Hollingsworth. "I have told people for a long time that you win with defense and that is why we practice it so hard."
