Thefts and vandalism reported On Dec. 20, a man cashed a cashier's check for $4,895 at the customer service desk at Kroger. The check was made out to Adam Short, and the man had identification with the same name. First Farmers Bank later informed the store the check was counterfeit. Lady Bulldogs surge past Fayetteville (01/04/13)
On Friday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (10-3) snapped a two-game losing streak when they defeated the Fayetteville Lady Tigers 62-49 at the Richland Christmas Classic. Although Cornersville had beaten Fayetteville twice already this season, the Lady Tigers (1-11) gave CHS fits early on in Friday's contest and held a 28-20 lead at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs, however, straightened things out after the break and outscored Fayetteville 42-21 over the final two periods to take home the 13-point win.
Rockets repel Raiders (01/04/13)
The Forrest Rockets (8-6) gave their fans a late present last Friday night by defeating the Richland Raiders 74-68 at the Richland Christmas Classic. Having narrowly lost to the Raiders 54-51 in their previous encounter on Nov. 27, the Rockets held a 26-24 lead at the break of Friday's contest before using a 31-13 run to forge a 57-37 advantage with 5:33 left in the fourth quarter. Forrest then weathered a frantic rally attempt by Richland (12-3) with the help of some clutch foul shooting to claim the six-point victory.
Rockets roll past Bulldogs (01/04/13)
Coming off an impressive win over Richland the previous night, the Forrest Rockets (9-6) reeled off their third straight victory on Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Cornersville Bulldogs 61-37 at the Richland Christmas Classic. The Rockets broke the game open early and built a 33-17 lead in the first half before outscoring CHS 28-20 over the final two quarters to cruise to their second win of the season over the Bulldogs (2-12).
Lady Bulldogs whip Wayne County (01/04/13)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (11-3) knocked off a potential playoff opponent on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Region 6-A foe Wayne County 59-49 at the Richland Christmas Classic. Wayne County (5-10) had won the last two meetings against CHS, but the Lady Bulldogs were in control for much of Thursday's contest and built a 25-15 lead in the first half before opening up a 44-30 advantage late in the third quarter.
Fayetteville thumps Bulldogs (01/04/13)
The Cornersville Bulldogs (2-11) took one on the chin last Friday afternoon when they were defeated 74-39 by the Fayetteville Tigers (7-5) at the Richland Christmas Classic. CHS narrowly lost to Fayetteville 48-47 in their previous meeting on Nov. 30, but the Tigers completely dominated Friday's game and built a 43-14 lead in the first half before outscoring the Bulldogs 31-25 over the final two quarters to cruise to their third win of the season over Cornersville.
Tigers finish sixth at Beech Holiday Classic (01/04/13)
After falling to Centennial 46-40 in the first round, the Marshall County Tigers (8-7) split their next two games at the Beech Holiday Classic en route to finishing sixth in the tournament. MCHS bounced back from their loss to Centennial by beating the White House Blue Devils 53-39 on Friday afternoon, but were defeated 58-47 by the Hunters Lane Warriors in the fifth place game on Saturday.
Tigers stumble in second half against Centennial (01/04/13)
For the fourth time in the last five games, the Marshall County Tigers (7-6) were unable to hold onto a halftime lead, as the Centennial Cougars (9-4) rallied to defeat MCHS 46-40 on Thursday afternoon at the Beech Holiday Classic. Playing their fifth straight Class AAA opponent, the Tigers did not seem to be bothered by the Cougars' superior height early on and built a 28-23 lead at halftime.
