On Thursday, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes were dealt their first loss of the season on the softball diamond when they dropped a 7-6 decision to the Liberty Lady Patriots on the road. After beating Wayne County 7-0 the previous day, the Cornersville Bulldog completed the sweep of the season series by defeating the Wildcats 10-7 in Waynesboro on Saturday. The Marshall County Tigerettes picked up an important District win on Thursday night when they defeated archrival Giles County 9-7 in Pulaski to record their fourth straight victory over the Lady Bobcats. Giles County came into Thursday's contest with a 2-0 record in District 12-AA play, but the Tigerettes cashed in on a slew of defensive miscues by the Lady Bobcats and appeared headed for an easy win after building a 9-0 lead through the first five and half innings of play. -
Forrest takes 2nd in Lady Bulldog Classic (High School Sports ~ 03/20/13)
The FMS Lady Rockets swept their first four games at the Lady Bulldog Classic in Columbia on Saturday before falling 5-2 in the championship game to Spring Station. The loss to the Thompson Station squad in the title tilt was the first setback for Forrest (13-1) this season. "We just came up against a good hitting ballclub and we just couldn't close that two-run deficit," said FMS head coach Bunky Elmore. "I told the girls there are a lot of teams that would be proud to get that second place trophy, Liberty and Summertown included, so we can't be ashamed of what we did, we worked hard and played hard all day long." -
Summit knocks off Tigers (High School Sports ~ 03/20/13)
Former Marshall County High School baseball standout Chad Kirby defeated his alma mater for the first time as the head coach of Summit on Monday night, as the Spartans beat the Tigers 4-2 in Spring Hill to hand MCHS their first loss of the season. Having won all four meetings against Summit last year, Marshall County (1-1, 0-1 District) held a 2-1 lead through the first four and a half innings of play, but Summit (1-4, 1-0 District) tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth to seize a 4-2 advantage before holding the Tigers scoreless over the final two frames.
