Upperman halts Bulldogs in Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
The Cornersville Bulldogs (8-5) dropped their third straight game at the Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic on Saturday morning when they lost 5-2 to the Upperman Bees at Joe George Field. After the two teams played to a 1-1 tie through the first four innings of play, Upperman (6-2) took control of the game down the stretch and outscored CHS 4-1 over the final three frames to claim the victory. -
Bees buzz past Tigers to end short win streak (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
Upperman (5-2) snapped the Marshall County Tigers' modest two-game winning streak on Friday night when they defeated MCHS 6-0 in the Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic at Joe George Field. The Tigers (5-4) had averaged 11 runs per game in their five previous outings, but mustered just five hits and three walks against Upperman starting pitcher Winston Cannon and reliever Zach Wallace. Ryan McDaniel, Ryan Richardson, Aaron Hobbs, Dylan McKnight, and Bubba Houghton each had one hit for Marshall County. -
Summertown holds off Tigers (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
Summertown (7-2) handed the Marshall County Tigers their third loss of the season on Thursday afternoon when they defeated MCHS 9-7 in six innings at Joe George Field in the Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic. With the Tigers (3-3) playing the second of three games that day, Marshall County coach Steve Reese decided to rest many of his normal starters against the Eagles and saw Summertown race out to an 8-0 lead through the first two innings of play. -
Summertown subdues Bulldogs 4-1 (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
On Friday, the Cornersville Bulldogs (8-4) suffered their second straight loss when they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Summertown Eagles (8-2) in the Rocket/Tiger Classic at Joe George Field. Cornersville held a 1-0 lead at the end of the third inning, but saw their bats go silent after that point while Summertown outscored CHS 4-0 the rest of the way to claim the three-run victory. -
Tigers flatten Fairview (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
The Marshall County Tigers completed the season sweep of District 11-A foe Fairview on Thursday afternoon when they defeated the Yellow Jackets 12-2 at home in six innings. After scoring 15 runs in the previous meeting between the two teams, MCHS (3-2, 2-2 District) once again feasted on Fairview pitching, as they banged out 10 hits and drew five walks against two Yellow Jacket hurlers. Matt Sharp led Marshall County at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and three runs scored. Tiger starting pitcher Hayden Bailey also helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a homerun and 4 RBI, while Dylan McKnight (2 RBI), Aaron Hobbs (1 RBI), Ryan McDaniel (1 RBI), Ryan Richardson (1 RBI), and Chandler Harmon all had one hit. -
Summertown shells Lady Bulldogs (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
Coming off an 11-day layoff, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (1-2) had the rust knocked off of them by Summertown on Monday night, as CHS lost 15-0 to the Lady Eagles in five innings on the road. After jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, Summertown pushed across four runs in the bottom of the second to open up a 9-0 advantage. The Lady Eagles then tallied three runs in the third inning to make it 12-0 before tacking on three more runs in the fourth en route to claiming their second straight win over Cornersville. Summertown blistered the ball the entire contest and pounded out 17 hits overall to go along with a walk and four Lady Bulldog errors. -
Tigers pull away from Greenbrier (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
The Marshall County Tigers ran their record to 5-3 on Friday morning when they defeated a mistake prone Greenbrier Bobcat squad 10-2 at Joe George Field in the Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic. MCHS finished with a modest eight hits and one walk against two Greenbrier pitchers, but the Bobcats aided Marshall County's cause by committing eight errors, which contributed to eight of the Tigers' 10 runs. -
Tigers cruise past Bulldogs (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
The Marshall County Tigers (4-3) defeated local rival Cornersville for the third straight time on Thursday night when they rolled to an 11-1 victory over the Bulldogs (8-3) in five innings at Joe George Field in the Rocket/Tiger Holiday Classic. Having averaged slightly over 11 runs per game in their last three outings, the Tigers finished with eight hits and a walk against Cornersville starting pitcher Tate Lowery, who saw his record fall to 1-2 on the season. The Bulldogs also suffered a complete meltdown defensively and committed a season high nine errors in the contest. -
Rockets beat Eagles at Vanderbilt (High School Sports ~ 04/03/13)
It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Forrest and Eagleville as the two District 9-A foes met at Hawkins Field on the campus of Vanderbilt University Monday night and the Rockets made the most of the experience in a 4-1 win over the Eagles. "This is something they never had a chance to do before," said Forrest head coach Chris Parker. "We were all looking forward to it and hopefully, we can come back and have a chance to do it again." -
