Rockets complete sweep over Eagleville (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
After an exciting 4-1 win over Eagleville at Vanderbilt on Monday, the Forrest Rockets completed the sweep over their District 9-A opponents with a big 11-1 five-inning run-rule win in Chapel Hill Tuesday night. The Rockets had only five hits in the contest and were the recipients of nine bases on balls issued by the Eagleville pitching staff, plus five errors in the field by the Rutherford County squad. -
Jordan pitches, powers Forrest over Eagleville (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
On Tuesday, Sara Jordan nailed a solo home run to go along with a grand slam by Katie Warrick to tag-team Forrest to an 11-1 win at Huntland. On Wednesday afternoon, Jordan continued her hot streak, pitching and powering the Lady Rockets to an 8-0 win over Eagleville at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill. "Sara did a good job on the mound, we did a good job hitting, and we improved a little bit defensively," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "As long as we can maintain that consistency and gain some momentum, we will be OK." -
LMS Tigerettes waylay Westwood (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
After narrowly defeating E.A. Cox 10-9 the previous evening, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (7-3) had a much easier time with Westwood on Tuesday night, as they crushed the Lady Rockets 15-0 in four innings at home. LMS starting pitcher Halle Chapman turned in a dominant performance in the circle and tossed a no-hitter while racking up 10 strikeouts and issuing two walks en route to picking up the win. -
Tigerettes top Hickman County (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
Coming off a 5-2 win over East Hickman the previous day, the Marshall County Tigerettes notched their second straight victory on Tuesday night when they defeated District 12-AA foe Hickman County 8-6 at home. After MCHS (7-4, 5-1 District) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, the Lady Bulldogs (4-5-1, 2-3 District) came storming back and tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the fifth inning. The Tigerettes, however, kept their composure and plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth to seize an 8-6 advantage before holding Hickman County scoreless over the final two frames to claim their eighth straight win over the Lady Bulldogs. -
Tigers wallop Wayne County (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
The Marshall County Tigers (3-2) moved back above the .500 mark on the pitch when they whipped the Wayne County Wildcats 5-0 on Tuesday night in Lewisburg. Despite coming off a two-week layoff, MCHS looked sharp early and scored three times in the first nine minutes of the game to take a 3-0 lead into the break before tacking on two goals late in the second half to cruise to their third win of the season. The Tigers put heavy pressure on Wayne County's net throughout the contest and outshot the Wildcats 37-10 overall. -
Runk game-winner ends intra-county slugfest (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
The LMS Tigerettes and FMS Lady Rockets met in Chapel Hill on Wednesday in a classic slugfest that ended in dramatic fashion on a Jasmine Runk game-winning, two-out base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 9-8 win for the home team. "That was a slugfest," said FMS head coach Bunky Elmore. "We said before the game that whoever made the least errors would win the game and we made the least." The two squads pulled out the heavy lumber as the yellow sphere flew all about the Field of Dreams as both teams combined for 27 total hits in the game. -
LMS small ball attack quiets Rockets (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
LMS head coach Frank Musgrave had a game plan coming into the intra-county rivalry contest versus Forrest Tuesday night in Lewisburg and it worked to almost perfection as the Tigers went small ball on offense to capture a 9-1 win over the Rockets. "I told them yesterday that we were probably going to play some ball and that is you've seen," said Musgrave. "My first three batters put down bunts and all three of them put it down exactly like I wanted them to and that is what we worked on, so I couldn't ask for anything more." -
Tigers outgun Rockets (High School Sports ~ 04/05/13)
After sweeping a doubleheader against East Hickman the previous evening, the Marshall County Tigers (8-4) extended their current winning streak to three games on Wednesday night when they defeated local rival Forrest 14-10 in Chapel Hill. The two teams were locked in a 7-7 tie through the first six innings of play, but the Tigers broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning with the help of several defensive miscues by the Rockets to seize a 14-7 lead. -
