School board gets good news about funding for building program

FMS Rockets stunned in round one (High School Sports ~ 04/10/13)
The FMS Rockets are in unfamiliar territory after suffering a huge 10-4 loss to host Liberty in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Monday night. "It was not the start that I was hoping for," said FMS head coach Bart Joyce. "We had a bad top of the first inning and just dug a hole that we couldn't get out of. We had a couple of errors that we couldn't get back and it cost us." The four-time defending champion Rockets dug a sinkhole, putting them down 8-0 in the top of the first inning. -

The Marshall County Wrestling Club (MCWC) was able to send twelve wrestlers to the TN AAU State Wrestling Tournament in their second season of competition, which was an improvement over last year's number of six wrestlers. Spring Hill (4-6, 4-3 District) snapped the Marshall County Tigerettes' three-game winning streak on Monday night when they defeated MCHS 5-1 in Lewisburg to earn a split of the regular season series. Marshall County (8-5, 6-2 District) had won the last four meetings against the Lady Raiders, which included an 8-1 victory on March 12, but were unable to solve Spring Hill starting pitcher Haley Perryman on Monday, as the sophomore hurler limited the Tigerettes to just three hits in the contest while issuing no walks. -
Late barrage lifts Lady Bulldogs over Culleoka (High School Sports ~ 04/10/13)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs completed the season sweep of District 11-A foe Culleoka on Monday night when they defeated the Lady Warriors 8-1 on the road. Cornersville (3-2, 3-1 District) had crushed Culleoka 14-3 six days earlier, but were on upset alert for much of Monday's contest, as they trailed 1-0 through the first four innings of play before tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth. The Lady Bulldogs, however, finally broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning and pushed across seven runs in the frame en route to claiming their 14th straight victory over the Lady Warriors. -

On Friday, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (8-4) completed the season sweep of county rival Cornersville (6-5) when they went on the road and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-4 to snap CMS' three-game winning streak. After narrowly beating Cornersville 8-7 in their previous meeting on March 8, the Tigerettes were involved in another tightly contested affair with the Lady Bulldogs on Friday, as the two teams battled to a 4-4 tie through the first six innings of play. -

The Marshall County Tigerettes had one big inning on offense and Grace Medley had seven solid innings in the circle as Lewisburg beat the Lewis County Lady Panthers 4-3 Friday night at Reese Hambrick Field to take over first place in the District 12-AA standings. "Any time Lewis County comes to town we know they are a tough, gritty team and we are always going to expect a good game out of them," said MCHS head coach Holly Cook. "I expected to hit her (Bass) a little better, but obviously, like I told the girls, any time you can get a win over Lewis County, I'll take it." -

The FMS Lady Rockets made easy work of Columbia Academy Monday afternoon at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill, crushing the Lady Bulldogs 16-1 in a three inning run-rule win. With the win, Forrest improved to 15-1 on the season and ended conference play with an undefeated slate. "After that big game versus LMS last week, this was a lot easier," said FMS head coach Bunky Elmore. "It was a great chance to get a lot of kids some playing time." -

Senior pitcher Dylan McKnight helped the Marshall County Tigers (9-4, 5-2 District) collect their fourth straight win on Friday night by tossing a complete game shutout to lead MCHS to 2-0 win over the Lewis County Panthers (4-8, 2-6 District) at home. McKnight outdueled Lewis County staff ace Charter Helton and racked up 10 strikeouts in seven scoreless innings of work while limiting the Panthers to just five hits and two walks en route to earning his third win of the year.
