Tigerettes bounced from Border Battle (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Marshall County Tigerettes (16-7) had their eight-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon after losing 12-2 in four innings to a strong Buckhorn Lady Bucks squad in the semifinals of the Lincoln County Border Battle. Despite their loss to Buckhorn, the Tigerettes finished the weekend with a 4-1 record and ended up taking home third place in the tournament. Ranked sixth in the current Class 6A Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, the Lady Bucks (29-12) displayed a potent offensive attack and pounded out 14 hits overall against MCHS starting pitcher Jacey Perryman and reliever Grace Medley to go along with two walks and three Tigerette errors. -
Forrest fights back, falls (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Forrest Lady Rockets trailed Spring Hill 4-0 in the first inning before chipping away to tie the game in the fifth, but a couple of costly unearned runs and some clutch hitting by the Lady Raiders was the difference in the 6-5 loss. "We have to fix that early game stuff," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "I believe and they agreed, that we don't go in to every game mentally intense and that got us beat tonight, I do believe." -
Tigerettes shut out Tullahoma (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
After receiving a first round bye in the single elimination portion of the tournament, the Marshall County Tigerettes advanced to the semifinals of the Lincoln County Border Battle by defeating the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats 4-0 in five innings on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals to record their eighth straight win. MCHS starting pitcher Grace Medley kept Tullahoma's offense under wraps and limited the Lady Wildcats to just one hit and one walk in the contest while registering four strikeouts en route to picking up the victory. -
Lift-a-Thon strengthens Rockets (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
A large, enthusiastic crowd of Forrest parents and fans attended to cheer on 90 high school and middle school football players as they took part in the 2013 Rocket Football Lift-a-Thon on Friday at the Lion's Club Fieldhouse in Chapel Hill. The event was a major fund-raising effort for the Rocket football program, while it continued the commitment to a rigorous strength and conditioning program set in place by the Forrest gridiron staff. -
Tigers throttle Fayetteville (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Marshall County Tigers celebrated Senior Day in style, as they pummeled District 7-A-AA foe Fayetteville 11-3 on Monday night in Lewisburg. Having defeated Fayetteville 4-1 in their previous encounter on April 7 at the Franklin County tournament, Marshall County (8-4-2, 4-2 District) put almost constant pressure on FHS goalie Nick Landers in Monday's contest and outshot Fayetteville 41-16 overall. -
Lady Bulldogs blow out Mt. Pleasant (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (6-4, 5-2 District) recorded their third straight blowout victory on Thursday when they defeated a mistake prone Mt. Pleasant Lady Tiger squad 11-0 in five innings at home on Senior Night. CHS starting pitcher Taylor Wolaver handcuffed the Lady Tiger lineup, as she tossed a one-hitter while registering seven strikeouts and issuing no walks en route to earning her fifth victory of the season. -
Lady Rockets solid in shutout win (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Forrest Lady Rockets (12-5, 8-2) turned in their best overall effort of the season Monday at the Field of Dreams on senior night, handing Moore County (12-8, 8-1) their first district loss of the season in a 3-0 shutout win. "That was a solid effort, I didn't feel like we made any mental or physical errors," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "It was very important to defend our home field for our seniors in their last home game and we are very proud that they made that happen." -
Tigerettes top Lincoln County (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
Having defeated Moore County (3-2)and Warren County (9-3) the previous evening, the Marshall County Tigerettes completed an undefeated run through pool play at the Lincoln County Border Battle on Saturday morning when they defeated tournament host Lincoln County 6-1 in five innings. After MCHS (15-6) built a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play, the Lady Falcons cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the fourth before the Tigerettes tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim their seventh straight victory. -
Tigers take down Page in district showdown (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Marshall County Tigers took a big step towards claiming one of the top two seeds in the upcoming District 12-AA tournament by defeating the Page Patriots 7-3 at home on Thursday night. With MCHS, Page, and Summit locked in a three-way tie for second place entering Thursday's contest, the Tigers (14-6, 10-3 District) got a strong pitching performance from starting hurler Matt Sharp and built a 6-1 lead through the first five innings of play before eventually claiming the four-run victory. -
Bulldogs corral Mustangs (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
On Thursday night, the Cornersville Bulldogs (11-11) snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the Loretto Mustangs 3-1 at home behind a stellar performance from senior pitcher Matt Callender. Loretto (13-6) held a 1-0 lead through the first two innings of play, but the Bulldogs tallied a run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1, before crossing home plate two more times in the bottom of the fifth en route to claiming their 11th win of the year. -
Columbia Academy rolls past Lady Bulldogs (High School Sports ~ 04/24/13)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs saw their modest three-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night when they were defeated 11-1 at home in five innings by District 11-A rival Columbia Academy. Having defeated Cornersville 3-0 in their previous encounter on April 9, CA (28-9, 6-0 District) got off to a fast start in Friday's contest and scored two runs in the top of the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead. -
