Lady Rockets rain-soaked in Classic loss (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
After beating District 9-A foe Eagleville 10-1 in the afternoon, the Forrest Lady Rockets travelled over to Manchester, hoping for a big weekend at the Coffee County Classic, but only got in one rain-soaked 6-2 loss to Marion County (24-8) before the sky opened up in a deluge, cancelling the remainder of the tournament. While the Forrest bats started silent off Lady Warrior starting pitcher Erica O'Kane, Marion County came out on fire, putting up two runs in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. -
Tigers blast Bobcats (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
On Thursday night, the Marshall County Tigers clinched the second seed in the upcoming District 12-AA tournament by hammering archrival Giles County 12-2 in six innings at Sam Davis Park to complete the season sweep of the Bobcats. After narrowly defeating Giles County 4-3 in extra innings two days earlier, the Tigers (17-6, 13-3 District) held a 4-2 lead through the first five frames of Thursday's contest before exploding for eight runs in the top of the sixth to cruise to their sixth straight win. Thanks to their triumph over Giles County, MCHS will now host one of the two four-team pools in the District tournament. -
Lady Rockets go long at Eagleville (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
The Forrest Lady Rockets travelled to Eagleville for an afternoon ballgame on Friday and they brought the heavy lumber with them in a big 10-1 win. Sara Jordan and Katie Warrick bashed homeruns for Forrest, who banged out 16 hits in the District 9-A contest. Warrick also picked up the win the circle for Forrest, giving up one earned run on seven hits, while striking out nine and walking just one Lady Eagles' batter. Warrick was red-hot at the plate, going 4-5, while Lainey Mays (3-4, 3RS, 2RBIs) and Liz Daughrity (3-5, RS) both had three base knocks in the game. -
Bulldogs rally to down Eagleville (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
The Cornersville Bulldogs (13-13) put on a good show for their fellow classmates on Thursday afternoon when they defeated the Eagleville Eagles 7-4 at home in front of the CHS student body. Cornersville trailed 2-0 at the end of the first inning, but outscored the Eagles 7-1 over the next four frames to take a 7-3 lead before staving off a late Eagleville rally attempt. -

Tigers squeak by Summertown (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
The Marshall County Tigers (18-6) reeled off their seventh straight win on Monday afternoon when they defeated District 12-A co-champ Summertown 2-1 on the road to earn a split of the season series with the Eagles. Having lost the last two meetings against Summertown, which included a 9-7 setback on March 28, the Tigers held a 2-0 lead through the first six innings of play in Monday's contest before withstanding a late rally attempt by the Eagles (23-5-1) to hold on for the one-run victory. -
Regular season finale a smash for Forrest (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
Because of a soaked softball field at Community, the Unionville girls came over to Forrest on Monday as the home team and they found out the Field of Dreams belonged to the Lady Rockets, who smashed the Viqueens 16-1 in a five-inning run-rule win. "That was a special way to end the regular season," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "Everybody got to play and everybody got to hit. I was pleased to see those young kids come in and they all did very well." -
MC wins sweep on senior night (High School Sports ~ 05/01/13)
It was a sweet senior night for Marshall County at Reese Hambrick Field in Lewisburg Thursday night as the Tigerettes swept a doubleheader from Fairview 7-1 and 16-4. Marshall County head coach Holly Cook said about her seniors, "These three (Austyn Whaley, Morgan Moyers, Katie Crabtree) are real special to me and very special to this program. They have been the epitome of leaders for their whole four years; not only on the field, but off the field they are exactly what we want are players to be, so I am very proud of them." -
