It was a big week for Cornersville senior baseball player Zach Richards. Along with helping to lead the Bulldogs to their first ever Class A State tournament appearance, Richards signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Martin Methodist College last Wednesday afternoon in the CHS auditorium. A three-year starter at third base for Cornersville, Richards has provided the Bulldogs with steady play at the hot corner during that span and has evolved into one of the team's leaders. -
Tigers fall to Goodpasture in sectional (High School Sports ~ 05/22/13)
Despite a valiant pitching performance from senior hurler Matt Sharp, the Marshall County Tigers saw their season come to an end on Friday afternoon, as they suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 road loss to defending Class AA state champ Goodpasture in the Section round of the playoffs. Playing in a steady drizzle for much of the contest, the Tigers (23-9) held a 1-0 lead through the first four and a half innings of play and appeared they might rain on the Cougars' parade. Marshall County, however, was unable to hold off Goodpasture (33-3) down the stretch, as the Cougars tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1 before scratching out another run in the sixth inning to escape with the hard fought victory. -
Bulldogs beat out Rockets for State Tournament bid (High School Sports ~ 05/22/13)
The Cornersville Bulldogs' precedent setting playoff run will culminate in a trip to Murfreesboro after CHS qualified for the Class A State baseball tournament for the first time ever by defeating county rival Forrest 4-1 in Chapel Hill on Saturday night in the Sectional round of the playoffs. Aided by a stellar pitching performance from sophomore hurler David Looney, the Bulldogs (19-14) seized the momentum early and built a 3-0 lead through the first three and a half innings of play.
