Rams blitz Bulldogs in state tournament opener (High School Sports ~ 05/24/13)
Experience counts. The Cornersville Bulldogs' first ever State tournament game ended up being a baptism by fire, as CHS lost 13-5 to the Grace Christian Academy Rams in the opening round on Tuesday night at Riverdale High School. Having reached the State tournament each of the last two years, GCA seemed better acclimated to the bright lights of the Spring Fling and forged a 13-2 lead through the first two and half innings of play. The Bulldogs eventually gained their bearings and held the Rams scoreless the rest of the way, but tallied only three runs during that span en route to falling into the loser's bracket. -
Forrest flat in first round loss (High School Sports ~ 05/24/13)
After an emotional win in the sectional round over Columbia Academy, the Forrest Lady Rockets came out flat in the first round of the TSSAA Blue Cross Spring Fling on Tuesday and paid the price, losing 4-3 to Whitwell. "They were flat, no doubt about it," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "We dug ourselves a hole, so we have to pick our chin up and come back over here tomorrow like we want to play and execute." -
Rumley signs with Bethel University Wildcats (High School Sports ~ 05/24/13)
Forrest's Tyler "Juice" Rumley recently decided to take his sharpshooting kills to Bethel University in McKenzie, signing a Letter of Intent to play basketball for the NAIA Wildcats. "I am extremely happy," said Rumley. "I just want to do the best I can, make sure I keep my grades up to earn my scholarship and develop my basketball as best I can." Rumley came on strong at tournament time in his junior season, earning a District 9-A All-Tournament selection before a stellar senior season for the Rockets. -
Bulldogs tame Lions in state (High School Sports ~ 05/24/13)
On Wednesday morning, the Cornersville Bulldogs proved they belonged on the big stage, as they recorded their first ever win in the Class A State tournament by defeating the Scotts Hill Lions 3-1 at Riverdale High School in the opening round of the loser's bracket. Aided by another strong pitching performance from sophomore hurler David Looney, the Bulldogs (20-15) built a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play before staving off a late comeback attempt by Scotts Hill in the top of the seventh inning to claim their 20th victory of the year. -
GCA bounces Bulldogs from state (High School Sports ~ 05/24/13)
to an end on Wednesday night when they suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Grace Christian Academy Rams at Riverdale High School in the loser's bracket final of their four-team pool. Having lost 13-5 to GCA in their opening game of the tournament, the Bulldogs were locked in a 1-1 tie with the Rams through the first three innings of the contest before Grace Christian tallied a run in the top of the fourth to seize a 2-1 advantage. -
Forrest season ends early (High School Sports ~ 05/24/13)
The Forrest Lady Rockets could not muster any of their late-season magic versus long-time rival Trinity Christian School (TCA) in Wednesday morning's losers' bracket round of the Blue Cross Spring Fling, falling 11-1 to the Lady Lions in six innings. The loss marked eight wins in 10 games for TCA over Forrest and four times that the Lady Lions have beaten Forrest in an elimination contest.
