The Marshall County Dusters (2-1) suffered their first loss of the summer season on Saturday morning when they were defeated 6-5 in six innings by the Summit Spartans at Columbia Central High School during pool play of the Southern Athletic Fields Invitational. Summit pounced on the Dusters early and built a 5-0 lead through the first two innings of play before withstanding multiple rally attempts by Marshall County to hang on for the one-run victory. -

Nichirin, the defending Marshall County Babe Ruth League champions were in danger of dropping to 1-4 in league play as A-Plus Collision Center jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the hose makers rallied to win 4-3 in eight innings Friday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in Lewisburg. Josh McKnight capped off the win with the game winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning, dropping the dent fixers to 1-4 on the season. -
Elks beat MMC in battle for Babe Ruth lead (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
After a 5-3 win over archrival MMC on Friday night, the Lewisburg Elks Lodge #1758 are back in first place after a one-year absence from their perennial top position in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League. A pair of ironmen on the mound went the distance as Will Johnson picked up the win for the Elks, while Ethan Poteete suffered the loss. Johnson gave up three earned runs on seven hits, whiffed eight MMC hitters and walked zero, while Poteete surrendered just one earned run on five Elks' base hits in his seven innings of mound duty. -
Summertown reels in Mudcats (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
Summertown handed the Middle Tennessee Mudcats their lone loss at the Southern Athletic Fields Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles claimed a 7-0 victory in five innings at Columbia Central High School. The Mudcats had averaged nine runs per game in their first three contests of the tourney, but saw their bats go silent against Summertown starting pitcher Timmy Beard, who limited Middle Tennessee to three hits and a walk in five scoreless innings of work to earn the victory. -
Dusters clobber Columbia 11-2 (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
After beating Creek Wood 6-3 earlier in the day, the Marshall County Dusters improved to 2-0 in pool play at the Southern Athletic Fields Invitational when they thumped the Columbia Cubs 11-2 in five innings at Columbia Central High School. The Dusters buried the Cubs early and built an 11-0 lead through the first three and a half innings of play before coasting to the nine-run victory. -
Dusters double up Creek Wood (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
The Marshall County Dusters began the 2013 summer baseball season by defeating the Creek Wood Red Hawks 6-3 at Columbia Central High School in the 16th Annual Southern Athletic Fields Invitational on Thursday afternoon. Marshall County took control of the game early and built a 4-0 lead through the first four innings of play. Creek Wood then crossed home plate three times in the top of the fifth to slice the deficit to 4-3, but the Dusters responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to open up a 6-3 advantage before Marshall County starting pitcher Ryan McDaniel held the Red Hawks scoreless over the final two innings. -
Elks hold off A-Plus (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
The Elks (5-1, 4-1) maintained sole possession of first place in the Marshall County Babe Ruth standings after defeating A-Plus Collision Center 7-5 in six innings on Monday night to record their third straight victory. Having lost to APCC 8-4 in the previous encounter May 23, the Elks built a 7-3 lead through the first five innings of play before staving off a A-Plus Collision Center rally attempt in the top of the sixth to avenge their lone defeat of the season. -
Nichirin blanks Marshall Medical Center (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
Nichirin (3-3, 3-2) notched their second straight win on Monday night when they defeated Marshall Medical Center 8-0 in five innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. MMC (3-3, 2-3) had defeated Nichirin 8-6 in their previous encounter on May 23, but the defending champs got the better of Marshall Medical Center this time around and built a 4-0 lead through the first three innings of play before crossing home plate four times in the bottom of the fifth to bring the mercy rule into effect. -
Mudcats shut out Dusters (High School Sports ~ 06/05/13)
Having won their two previous games at the Southern Athletic Fields Invitational, the Middle Tennessee Mudcats improved to 3-0 in pool play by defeating the Marshall County Dusters 4-0 behind a strong performance from starting hurler Logan Hollingsworth. Facing a Marshall County offense that had averaged more seven runs per game in their three previous tournament games, Hollingsworth limited the Dusters (2-2) to just five hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings of work to go along with three strikeouts. -

Marshall County High School kicker Aaron Medley moved one step closer to fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing football for the University of Tennessee when he recently committed to the Volunteers and became a part of UT's 2014 recruiting class. Rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and Scout, Medley is currently ranked the top place kicker in the country by Kohl's Kicking Camps for the Class of 2014 and is considered the number five punter in the land. -
