Dusters defeat Shelbyville Post 23 (High School Sports ~ 07/17/13)
After splitting their first two games at the Tullahoma Classic, the Marshall County Dusters improved to 2-1 in pool play by claiming a 9-2 victory over Shelbyville Post 23 on Saturday morning at Shelbyville Central High School. Aided by a pair of three-run innings, the Dusters (16-9) pounded out 11 hits against three Shelbyville pitchers to go along with five walks and four Post 23 errors. Matt Sharp led Marshall County's offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while starting hurler Ryan McDaniel and Bubba Houghton both tallied two hits and a RBI. Hayden Bailey (1 RBI), Connor Bush (1 RBI), Grayson Wiles (1 RBI), and Chandler Harmon notched one hit apiece for the Dusters as well. -
Central Magnet shuts out Dusters (High School Sports ~ 07/17/13)
Having already secured a spot in the semifinals of the Tullahoma Classic, the Marshall County Dusters finished with a 2-2 record in pool play after losing 7-0 in five innings to the Murfreesboro Central Magnet Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Shelbyville Central High School. Tiger starting pitcher Michael Zipay went the distance on the mound to earn the win and scattered five hits and four walks over five innings while notching six strikeouts. Marshall County (16-10) also left seven men in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base overall. -
Dusters double up Magnet (High School Sports ~ 07/17/13)
The Marshall County Dusters (17-10) advanced to the championship game of the Tullahoma Classic by defeating the Murfreesboro Central Magnet Tigers 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Tullahoma High School in the semifinals. Murfreesboro Central Magnet had defeated Marshall County 7-0 the previous day during pool play, but the Dusters turned the tables on the Tigers in Sunday's contest and built a 4-1 lead through the first four and a half innings of play before withstanding a MCM rally attempt to claim the victory. -
Shelbyville Post 23 eliminates Mudcats (High School Sports ~ 07/17/13)
After posting a 2-2 record in pool play, the Middle Tennessee Mudcats were knocked out of the Tullahoma Classic when they dropped a 5-2 decision to Shelbyville Post 23 on Sunday afternoon at Tullahoma High School in the semifinals of the tournament. Shelbyville starting pitcher Kalen Thompson turned in a strong performance on the mound and tossed a four-hitter while issuing four walks and racking up 10 strikeouts en route to earning the win -
Dusters fall in title clash (High School Sports ~ 07/17/13)
The Marshall County Dusters (17-11) finished second in the Tullahoma Classic after dropping a 7-3 decision to Shelbyville Post 23 in the championship game on Sunday night at Tullahoma High School. Marshall County had defeated Shelbyville 9-2 earlier in the tournament, but Post 23 got the better of the Dusters this time around and built a 5-0 lead through the first five innings of play before taking home the four-run victory. -
Parsons goes low to claim MGA title (Community Sports ~ 07/17/13)
Jared Parsons shot a one over par 73 on Saturday before backing it up with a two-under par 70 to claim the 2013 Saddle Creek Men's Golf Association title. After 18 holes on Saturday, Parsons was tied with Brian Borton as both zero handicappers carded first round 73's. Only five players turn in scorecards with rounds in the 70's. Defending champion Joe Liggett (74), 2010 champion Mike Tankersley (75), and Roger Harwell (78) were the three other golfers that managed to come in with less than 80 strokes on Saturday. -
Stars rout Lawrence County in title game (Community Sports ~ 07/17/13)
The Marshall County Stars completed a dominant run through the 14-year old Babe Ruth District 8 tournament by crushing Lawrence County 19-1 in five innings on Thursday night at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. Having defeated Lawrence County 11-4 earlier in the tournament, the Stars actually trailed 1-0 at the end of the first inning in Thursday's contest, before reeling off 19 consecutive runs over the next four frames to cruise to the mercy rule shortened victory. -
