Brownie Hewitt Scoggins, 91, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. She was the daughter of John Payton Hewitt and Clabie Wilkes Hewitt of the Robertson Fork Community in Giles County. She was a graduate of Jones High School in Lynnville and Nashville Business College. Brownie retired in 1989 after working for 41 years, mostly with the state of Tennessee. After splitting a pair of games against Shelbyville Post 23 in the Tullahoma Classic over the weekend, the Marshall County Dusters (17-12) lost the rubber match on Tuesday night when they dropped a hard fought 8-7 decision at Joe George Field. Playing nine innings instead of the usual seven, the Dusters trailed 7-3 through the first four and a half frames before tallying two runs in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the gap to 7-5. -
Mudcats' season ends in 3-1 loss (High School Sports ~ 07/19/13)
The Middle Tennessee Mudcats' summer season came to a close Monday via a 3-1 loss to Spring Hill in the first round of the Middle Tennessee High School Baseball League Tournament at BGA. The Mudcats (14-17) looked good at the outset of the contest, scoring a first inning run as Caleb Keller led off with a base on balls before Ryan Yelensky banged a base hit to the right side on a perfect hit and run to put runners on the corners.
