CA sweeps Cornersville on links (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
Despite turning in one of their better efforts of the season, the Cornersville Bulldogs golf team was unable to come away with a win on Thursday when they lost to Columbia Academy at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. Aided by a stellar performance from Lake Lomax, CA finished with a team score of 163 after taking the four best rounds from six players, while Cornersville (4-4) posted a 183, which was their third lowest score of the year. -
Unbeaten FMS stuns Cascade (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
On Thursday, the FMS Rockets travelled to Wartrace and fell behind 12-8 late in the third quarter before scoring 22 unanswered points, stunning Cascade 30-12 to remain undefeated on the season at 3-0. The Rockets put up 232 total yards on offense, compared to 141 yards for Cascade, but the difference in the game was a pair of late interception returns for touchdowns by visiting Forrest. -
Hickman County defeats Tiger golfers (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
Although they posted their second best score of the season, the Marshall County Tigers suffered just their second loss of the year on the links when they were defeated by the Hickman County Bulldogs at Skyview Golf Club in Centerville on Thursday afternoon. Hickman County saw their top four players all shoot 40 or better over nine holes en route to posting a team score of 154, while the Tigers finished 10 strokes back with a 164. -
Tigerettes slip past Cornersville 1-0 (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
After battling to a 1-1 tie in both meetings last season, Marshall County and Cornersville were finally able to determine a winner on the pitch when the Tigerettes (1-0) defeated the Lady Bulldogs 1-0 on Thursday afternoon at CHS. Making her first ever start at goaltender, Marshall County sophomore Alexis Ford had a splendid debut in net and made an early goal by senior striker Emily Spence stand up by recording 10 saves in the contest. -
Cornersville Middle pummels Huntland (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs started the 2013 football campaign with a bang, as they hammered the Huntland Hornets 44-0 on Thursday night at home. CMS put the game out of reach early and built a 32-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more touchdowns over the final two quarters to cruise to the lopsided victory. With their defense and special teams accounting for three of their six touchdowns, the Bulldogs finished with a modest 197 yards of total offense, all on the ground, but averaged a whopping 13.1 yards per play. -
Shelbyville surges past Tigers (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
The Marshall County Tigers stumbled out of the gates to start the 2013 football season, as they lost 34-21 on the road to the Shelbyville Golden Eagles on Friday night. After taking a 21-20 lead into halftime, MCHS still held their slim one-point advantage late in the third quarter, but Shelbyville outscored the Tigers 14-0 down the stretch with the help of two big special teams plays to claim the 13-point victory. The Golden Eagles piled up 456 yards of total offense with 306 yards coming through the air. Shelbyville quarterback Mason Cunningham had a big night and completed 17-of-30 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns to go along with one interception. -
Bulldogs hold off Huntland 25-20 (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
John Denton notched his first victory as the head football coach of the Cornersville Bulldogs on Friday night when CHS went on the road and defeated the Huntland Hornets 25-20 in their season opener. Cornersville had their way with Huntland early on and built a 19-0 lead in the first half after scoring touchdowns on three of their first four possessions. The Bulldogs then had to scratch and claw to hold on for the win in the second half, as they had to withstand a late Huntland rally to claim the six-point victory. -
Rockets soar over Collinwood (High School Sports ~ 08/28/13)
The Forrest Rockets opened the 2013 prep football season with a dominating performance, physically pounding Collinwood 42-2 Friday night in front of a packed house at "The Rock" in Chapel Hill. "We challenged them this week to come out and play from the first series on offense, defense, special teams, no matter what and they did very well with that tonight," said first-year Forrest head coach Brian Coleman. "That is going to have to be our brand of football. Be physical on offense, control the clock, and play good defense." -

First Commerce Bank wins in Lions tourney (Community Sports ~ 08/28/13)
Team First Commerce, consisting of David Delk, Dean Delk, Ryan Sweeney, and Joey Morefield fired a 15-under par score of 57 to claim the top spot in the Chapel Hill Lions Club Golf Tournament at Henry Horton State Park Friday. Finishing in second place in the championship flight, two shots back, was the Big 'G' Express team of Tim Tipps, T.J. Tipps, Joe Liggett, and Andy Blackwell, while third place went to the Jeff Nicholson led team with Brandon Romer, Josh Seiber, and Jason Voss, who scrambled to a 60.
