Murfreesboro Central Magnet got the better of the Marshall County Tigers (7-3-1) on the links when they swept a three-team match against MCHS and the Eagleville Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Champions Run Golf Course. After adding up the top four rounds from each team, Murfreesboro Central Magnet posted a team score of 158 over nine holes, while Marshall County and Eagleville both finished with a 166. -
Tigerettes waylay Wayne County (High School Sports ~ 08/30/13)
The Marshall County Tigerettes soccer team ran their record to 2-0 on Tuesday by hammering the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 5-0 on Tuesday evening in Lewisburg. Wayne County had thumped MCHS 8-0 in their lone meeting last season, but the Tigerettes turned the tables on the Lady Wildcats in Tuesday's contest and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half before exploding for four goals over the final 40 minutes to cruise to the easy victory. Marshall County controlled the action throughout the match and outshot Wayne County 14-5 overall. Junior midfielder Sophia Raffo scored two goals to lead the Tigerettes's offensive attack, while Emily Spence, Peyton Gevedon, and Abbey Redferrin tallied one goal apiece with Spence and Gevedon each dishing out an assist. Clara Wilson also recorded an assist for MCHS. -
Cornersville golf sweeps Fairview (High School Sports ~ 08/30/13)
The Cornersville Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs golf teams both padded their win totals by defeating their Fairview counterparts on Tuesday afternoon at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. Taking the four best individual scores from each team, the Bulldogs (5-4) beat the Yellow Jackets 178-184 in the boys match to move back above the .500 mark. -
Pitts enters second season with high hopes for Tigers (High School Sports ~ 08/30/13)
Aaron Pitts enters his second season as head football coach at Marshall County High School in 2013 and he feels good about the team chemistry and the Tigers' chances of having a solid season and a deep playoff run. "The major difference this year is I have my system in place and the kids know what's expected," said Pitts. "I feel like we have some depth and the competition is good, it always brings out the best. We have a lot of young kids pushing the older kids, who have to come to practice and play hard every day because if you don't, you won't be first on the depth and they have bought into that system." -

William David Leo "Bill" Morgan, 91, of Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at NHC Lewisburg. He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Nashville, and was the son of the late Reverend Albert Johnson Morgan and Mrs. Mary Record Morgan. After attending Vanderbilt University, he entered the Army Air Force during World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa.
