CMS Bulldogs suffer first loss (High School Sports ~ 09/11/13)
The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs (2-1) were dealt their first loss of the season on Thursday night when they dropped a hard fought 28-20 decision to an unbeaten Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Saints squad at home. CMS held an 8-6 advantage at halftime before opening up a 20-12 advantage late in the third quarter, but the Saints (4-0) got the better of the Bulldogs down the stretch and outscored Cornersville 16-0 over the final nine minutes of the contest to take home the eight-point victory. -
Westwood hands Rockets first conference loss (High School Sports ~ 09/11/13)
Westwood ran the ball 30 times and did not attempt a pass in a 22-6 win in the battle of the Rockets Thursday night in Chapel Hill. FMS outgained their namesakes by 12 yards in the Duck River Valley Conference matchup, but could not sustain enough drives or come up with the big play when they needed it. "We just never did get anything going," said FMS head Coach Bart Joyce. "They got a good ball team and came out with a big play on play one and we never responded to it. We laid back on our heels, we had a big play here and there, had some points, but never got to feed off of it and never got it going." -

The Cornersville Bulldogs made the best of a bad situation on Friday night, as they defeated District 11-A rival Richland 26-14 at home despite losing starting quarterback Jamie Crowell to a dislocated elbow late in the first half. Having beaten CHS 63-34 last year, the Raiders (0-3, 0-1 District) grabbed an early 6-0 lead in Friday's contest when Caleb Briggs scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with 2:40 left in the first quarter. -
Forrest blanks top-ranked Raiders (High School Sports ~ 09/11/13)
The Forrest Rockets did not let last week's heartbreaking loss versus Cascade deter their mission of winning District 9A this season as they came back vigorously versus top-ranked Moore County, blanking the Raiders 23-0 at "The Rock" in Friday night's league opener. "The guys played excellent, they executed the game plan as we wanted," said Forrest head coach Brian Coleman. "Monday was a very quiet practice and these young kids, you don't know what they're thinking, but I think they were focused and ready to go to work this week." The Forrest (2-1, 1-0) win was just the second triumph over Moore County (2-1, 0-1) in 26 years, with the last victory coming in 2009. -
Tigers roar past Page (High School Sports ~ 09/11/13)
After losing their first two games of the season, the Marshall County Tigers picked up a much needed win on Friday night when they defeated District 12-AA rival Page 42-21 at Preston Hopkins Field to record their second straight victory over the Patriots. With eight of the last 10 meetings between the two teams having been decided by eight points or less, Marshall County (1-2, 1-0 District) appeared to be embroiled in another hard fought contest against Page early on and were locked in a 14-14 tie with the Patriots (1-2, 0-1 District) midway through the second quarter.
