Columbia Academy blitzes Lady Bulldogs (High School Sports ~ 09/20/13)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs had their three-game winning streak snapped on Monday night when they were defeated 10-2 on the road by a talented Columbia Academy squad, which currently sits in first place in the southern division of the District 11-A-AA standings. Cornersville (3-3-1, 2-2-1 District) hung tough early on and trailed just 3-2 midway through the first half. CA (7-2, 5-0 District), however, simply overwhelmed the Lady Bulldogs after that point, as they tallied four goals in the final 17 minutes of the first half to forge a 7-2 lead before scoring three more times in the second stanza to roll to the lopsided victory. -
Cornersville comes up short in district (High School Sports ~ 09/20/13)
After enjoying a successful regular season, the Cornersville golf team saw their 2013 campaign come to an end on Monday, as the Bulldogs finished 10th out of 14 boys teams in the District 11-A-AA tournament, which was held at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, while the Lady Bulldogs came in fifth out of nine girls squads. "I thought we played well overall. It was a learning experience for the girls and the guys. They all worked hard and made a lot of progress this season," said Cornersville coach Jill McMasters. "I'm optimistic about next year because everyone is coming back. If we can make as much improvement next season as we did this season, we'll be in pretty good shape." -
Fast start propels Tigerettes past Loretto (High School Sports ~ 09/20/13)
The Marshall County Tigerettes moved into sole possession of first place in the southern division of the District 12-A-AA standings by defeating the Loretto Lady Mustangs 3-1 at home on Tuesday evening. MCHS (6-3-1, 2-0 District) came flying out of the gates and forged a 3-0 lead in the first half before cruising to their sixth victory of the season. -

After a 10-1 loss to Spring Hill in the season opener, head coach Natalie Dennis' young Forrest squad has turned it on, winning four straight games with the latest victory coming in Chapel Hill on Tuesday, via a 10-0 thrashing over Huntland. "We didn't expect this, but we just kind of rolled with it," said Dennis. "We got ahead last week against Marshall County and after halftime we almost got beat, so after that we don't quit anymore." -

Two Forrest golfers qualified for next week's Region 5A/AA Tournament at Champions Run Golf Club in Rockvale with sophomore Gary Lukonen leading the way at the District 9A/AA Tournament with a solid third-place finish, while Caitlyn Burt managed to grab the last at-large spot. Lukonen shot 81 at the Legacy in Springfield and could have come in way lower if some putts would have fallen for the Rocket duffer. -
Tiger golfers advance to region (High School Sports ~ 09/20/13)
The Marshall County Tigers goal coming in to the District 12A/AA Golf Tournament at 5,719 yard Lawrenceburg Golf & Country Club was to play well enough to advance to the region and they accomplished their goal, finishing as one of the top three automatic qualifiers. "That was our goal coming in was to advance and take it step by step and we reached that goal," said MCHS coach Robby Giles. "I think the guys are sitting on cloud nine right now. They have been so pumped, so excited about this, they wanted to advance, so I think they will be ready to play next week."
