Mike Keny to chair school board for another year

By Karen Hall Editor September is the month when the school board traditionally organizes itself for the next 12 months, choosing a chairman, vice chairman, and chairman pro tem, and setting the date and time of the monthly meeting. Having announced this, chairman Mike Keny handed the meeting over to Director of Schools Jackie Abernathy, and she accepted a motion to nominate Keny for another term. Lady Bobcats blank TIgerettes (High School Sports ~ 09/27/13)
The Marshall County Tigerettes fell into second place in the southern division of the District 12-A-AA standings after dropping a 4-0 decision on the pitch to the Giles County Lady Bobcats in Pulaski on Tuesday evening. Giles County (6-4-1, 2-0 District) controlled the match from start to finish and built a 2-0 lead in the first half before scoring two more goals over the final 40 minutes to claim sole possession of first place in the southern division. The Lady Bobcats put heavy pressure on MCHS' net throughout the contest and outshot Marshall County 20-2 overall. Sophomore striker Kate Wallace led Giles County's offensive attack with two goals and an assist, while Kate McComiskey notched a goal and an assist. Addison Gowan also scored a goal for the Lady Bobcats and Carleigh Melvin registered an assist. -
Viqueens blank Lady Rockets 5-0 (High School Sports ~ 09/27/13)

Tigers place 6th in region tourney (High School Sports ~ 09/27/13)
On Monday, the Marshall County Tigers golf team saw their season come to an end when they finished in sixth place at the Region 6-A-AA tournament, which was held at Montgomery Bell State Park. Taking the four best rounds from five players, the Tigers posted a team score of 370 after playing all 18 holes at Montgomery Bell. Junior Brooks Leftwich recorded the ninth best individual score of the tournament and led MCHS with an 80, but narrowly missed earning an at large bid to the State tournament. -
Tigerettes fall 4-0 to Crusaders (High School Sports ~ 09/27/13)
The Middle Tennessee Crusaders (5-2) handed the Marshall County Tigerettes (6-5-1) their second straight loss on Wednesday afternoon when they defeated MCHS 4-0 at Cook Soccer Park in Columbia. Marshall County had narrowly defeated Middle Tennessee 6-5 in their lone meeting last year, but the Crusaders knocked MCHS back on their heels at the start of Wednesday's contest and scored two early goals to build a 2-0 lead in the first half. -
Lukonen earns state tourney spot (High School Sports ~ 09/27/13)
Forrest sophomore Gary Lukonen turned in a solid five-over par round of 77 Monday at the Region 5A/AA Golf Tournament at Champions Run Golf Course in Rockvale, earning a spot in next week's TSSAA Class A/AA State Tournament at Willow Brook Golf Club in Manchester. "Gary has been playing really good the last couple of weeks," said Forrest coach Jeremy Jean. "I think we expected it and he did too and that is why he got it." Lukonen's 77 was the third best score in the boys' event, while the eventual team champion David Lipscomb Academy brothers Dawson (69) and Davis (70) Armstrong came home in the number one and two spots.
