Man who stole city equipment indicted

By Karen Hall Editor A man who allegedly stole nearly all of the City of Lewisburg's lawn-care equipment was indicted by the grand jury at their last session of the year. Martin Riley III, 47, of Smithville, was charged with theft over $10,000. Between 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, and 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, sheet metal screws were removed from the back of the building at Lone Oak Cemetery until the metal siding could be lifted up like a curtain, said City Manager Randall Dunn at the time...

On Thursday afternoon, the Cornersville Bulldogs (2-6) put a scare into Page, but were unable to finish the deal, as CHS dropped a hard fought 72-64 decision to the Patriots at the Community Christmas Classic. The Bulldogs appeared to have Page (5-6) on the ropes after taking a 55-52 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Cornersville faltered down the stretch while the Patriots outscored CHS 20-9 over the final 6:48 to pull out the eight-point win. -

Collinwood handed the Marshall County Tigers (5-3) their second straight loss on Friday afternoon when they defeated MCHS 72-61 in the Wildcat Christmas Classic at Lawrence County High School. The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (6-3) had their three-game winning streak snapped on Friday night when they lost 58-36 to the Community Viqueens (11-2) at the Community Christmas Classic. Playing without starting shooting guard Breanne Dunkleman, Cornersville couldn't match Community's offensive firepower, as the Viqueens built a 31-20 lead in the first half before outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 27-16 over the final two quarters to pull away for the 22-point victory. -

For the second straight day, the Cornersville Bulldogs (2-7) put up a tough fight against a quality opponent, but were once again unable to come away with a win, as they suffered a heartbreaking 58-57 loss to the Community Vikings (9-6) on Friday night at the Community Christmas Classic. Having defeated Cornersville 67-40 in their lone encounter last season, the Vikings held a 48-36 lead late in the third quarter of Friday's contest before the Bulldogs stormed back and sliced the deficit to 55-54 with :37 left. -

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs gave their fans an early present on Thursday afternoon when they defeated two-time defending District 12-AA champ Page 38-26 at the Community Christmas Classic. Cornersville (6-2) led from start to finish and built a 21-10 advantage in the first half before outscoring the Lady Patriots 17-16 over the final two quarters to claim their third straight victory. -
Tigers whip Wildcats (High School Sports ~ 12/27/13)
The Marshall County Tigers played the role of Grinch on Saturday afternoon when they defeated tournament host Lawrence County 60-50 at the Wildcat Christmas Classic to snap a two-game losing streak. MCHS (6-3) appeared headed for a relatively easy victory after racing out to a 29-17 lead in the first half, but Lawrence County (8-5) came storming back in the third quarter and rallied to tie the game at 39-39 late in the stanza.
