By Karen Hall Editor Sheriff Norman Dalton sent Chief Deputy Bob Johnson to the meeting of the Cornersville Board of Mayor and Aldermen last week to explain the problem with county dispatch that ended up on the Nashville news. Annie Katherine Ewing, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Cornersville Middle knocks off Fayetteville 2-1 (High School Sports ~ 04/09/14)
ayetteville's perfect season on Friday night by defeating the Tigers 2-1 at home. Cornersville held a 2-0 lead through the first five innings of play before Fayetteville (11-1) scored a run in the top of the sixth to whittle the deficit to 2-1. The Tigers then put together another scoring threat in the seventh inning, but Bulldog reliever Carson Stacey escaped a bases loaded jam to help CMS claim their 10th win of the year. "This win says a lot about the team. They've never quit all year. We got a good pitching performance and played well overall," said Cornersville coach Mike Tatum. -
Bulldogs finish doubleheader by sweeping Faytteville (High School Sports ~ 04/09/14)
Having defeated Fayetteville 7-4 in the first game of a doubleheader, the Cornersville Bulldogs (10-5) completed the sweep of the twin bill by whipping the Tigers 6-0 in the second contest at home on Thursday night. Bulldog starting pitcher Jody Sullivan turned in a strong outing on the mound and limited Fayetteville to just three hits over six scoreless innings while issuing only one walk and racking up 12 strikeouts en route to earning his fourth win of the season. Tate Lowery then came on in relief of Sullivan and recorded one strikeout in one perfect inning of work. -
Bulldogs fend off Fayetteville (High School Sports ~ 04/09/14)
The Cornersville Bulldogs (9-5) snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon by defeating the Fayetteville Tigers 7-4 at home in the first game of a doubleheader. Cornersville appeared headed for a relatively stress free victory and held a 7-0 lead through the first six innings of play, but had to stave off a Fayetteville rally attempt in the top of the seventh that saw the Tigers bring the tying run to the plate to hold on for the win. -
Tigerettes topple Giles County (High School Sports ~ 04/09/14)
On Thursday night, the Marshall County Tigerettes handed archrival Giles County their first loss in District play when they traveled down to Pulaski and whipped the Lady Bobcats 9-1. Having lost the last two meetings against Giles County, which included a 3-1 defeat on March 20, the Tigerettes (4-9, 2-4 District) managed to rattle the Lady Bobcats early and built a 9-0 lead through the first five innings of play before cruising to the eight-run victory. -
Tigers edge Warren County (High School Sports ~ 04/09/14)
After pounding Richland 10-1 two days earlier, the Marshall County Tigers (12-3) won an old fashioned pitchers' duel on Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Warren County Pioneers 1-0 at home. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie through the first six innings of play, but Warren County (9-9) finally blinked in the bottom of the seventh, as the Tigers scored the winning run with the help of an error by Pioneer shortstop Logan Underhill after putting runners on first and second with one out thanks to two walks. -
Hollingsworth hurls no-hitter at Vanderbilt (High School Sports ~ 04/09/14)
The Forrest Rockets like the big lights at Hawkins Field on the campus of Vanderbilt University, especially ace hurler Logan Hollingsworth, who tossed a no-hitter Monday night versus Eagleville in a 12-1 five inning, run-rule win. "There was a lot of energy, we had a special guest at the school today in my friend Jason Maxwell, who kind of lit the fire and we kept it burning," said Forrest head coach Chris Parker. "They played very hard; I am proud of their effort and their energy." -

LMS gives departing coach Big South victory The LMS Tigerettes gave longtime coach Lee Perryman the perfect going away present when they swept their way to the Big South Conference Tournament title, going 3-0 in Chapel Hill on Friday and Saturday. Perryman, who won a Division title in 2008 before taking the conference crown in 2009, is retiring from coaching after eight years at the helm of LMS.
