Holton legacy a shield of honor (Local News ~ 04/25/14)
A man is measured by how many people he touches in a positive manner throughout his lifetime and legendary Forrest football coach Murrey Holton, who passed away last week, left his mark that stretches from his beloved Chapel Hill community to all parts of the country. "We had a bond that started on September 5, 1985 and remains to this day," said Chapel Hill Elementary School Principal Dean Delk. "When my family arrived to take the job as Principal at Forrest School in September 1985, prior to that Murrey's children had written my children notes, welcoming us to Chapel Hill which I thought was a terrific gesture that made the transition very smooth and we just kind of hit it off." -
Richland roughs up Lady Bulldogs (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
After pulling out a dramatic comeback victory over Marshall County two days earlier, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (10-8, 4-5 District) came crashing back down to earth on Wednesday afternoon when they lost 11-1 in five innings to defending Class A state champ Richland in Lynnville. Having defeated Cornersville 10-0 in their previous meeting on March 31, the Lady Raiders (17-4, 6-1 District) took the wind out of CHS' sails early on Wednesday and built a 7-0 lead through the first two innings of play. -
Tigers tie Loretto (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
Despite scuffling on the pitch for most of the afternoon, the Marshall County Tigers managed to earn a point in the District standings on Monday when they battled the Loretto Mustangs to a 1-1 tie at home on Senior Day. Loretto (4-5-2, 1-5-2 District) held a 1-0 lead late in the second half and appeared they might steal a road win, but the Tigers (6-5-1, 3-3-1 District) tallied a goal with eight minutes left thanks to a penalty kick by Luis Consuelo to salvage the 1-1draw. -
Warriors defeat Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
Culleoka took much of the fun out of Cornersville's Senior Day, as the Warriors defeated the Bulldogs 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon to salvage a split of the season series. Aided by some two-out magic, Culleoka (9-15-1, 6-6 District) built a 5-1 lead through the first four and a half innings of play before staving off a late Cornersville rally to hang on for the win. -

Looney no-hits Culleoka (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
Staff ace David Looney produced another pitching gem for Cornersville (13-9, 9-2 District) on Monday night, as the junior southpaw tossed the second no-hitter of his CHS career to help lead the Bulldogs to a 4-0 road victory over the Culleoka Warriors (8-15-1, 5-6 District). Thanks to Monday's win, Looney ran his record to 8-1 this season and helped Cornersville remain tied for first place in the District 11-A standings with Columbia Academy. -
Lady Rockets take out MTCS in three innings (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
The Forrest Lady Rockets needed just three innings to defeat Middle Tennessee Christian School Tuesday night, run-ruling the Lady Cougars 16-0. The game was scheduled to be played in Murfreesboro, but because of unplayable field conditions, the contest was moved to the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill. Forrest banged out 11 hits in the game, while Samantha King picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Rockets, tossing two innings of no-hit ball. -
FMS Rockets advance to title game (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
The FMS Rockets defeated intra-county rival Cornersville 5-1 Wednesday night in the loser's bracket final of the Duck River Valley Conference Tournament at Liberty to advance to Thursday night's title game where they have to defeat Fayetteville twice to claim the championship. "Now we got to win two, we have done it before and we can do it again," said FMS head coach Bart Joyce. -
Tigers defeat Cascade (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
The Marshall County Tigers moved into a tie for third place in the District 12-AA standings with Page by beating the Cascade Champions 6-1 at home on Monday night. After Marshall County (16-7, 5-4 District) built a 4-0 lead through the first five innings of play, Cascade (14-11, 1-8 District) tallied a run in the top of the sixth to trim the deficit to 4-1 before the Tigers tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom half of the frame to claim their second straight win. -
Miss Tennessee inspires students to do well on TCAP (Local News ~ 04/25/14)

Students invited to special performance of 'Cats' at Dixie

Jones seals 9-A title for Rockets (High School Sports ~ 04/25/14)
Forrest had their backs up against the wall in Thursday night's winner take all battle in Unionville, knotted in a 2-2 tie through five innings before Landon Jones delivered a clutch two-run single in the sixth that sealed their first regular season District 9-A crown since 2006 for the Rockets in a 4-3 win. "These have been two good ballgames and we took care of business later in the year and we only needed to win one and we won a big over here today, like they did at our place on Monday," said Forrest head coach Chris Parker. "We did something special tonight that hasn't been done for a long time."
