Man pleads guilty just days before his trial

By Karen Hall Editor Just days before his jury trial was due to start, a Lewisburg man pleaded guilty to three counts of rape of a child, a Class A felony punishable by up to 60 years in prison. Tommy L. Bryant, 37, of Rambo Hollow Road, received a sentence of 25 years on each count, but the sentences will all run at the same time. Bryant must serve 100 percent of his sentence before being released, and then remain on community supervision for the rest of his life...

A-Plus Collision Center polishes off Elks (High School Sports ~ 06/20/14)
Having already sewn up the 2014 Marshall County Babe Ruth League championship, A-Plus Collision Center (11-1) ended their season in fitting fashion by defeating the second place Elks 8-1 in five innings on Tuesday night. APCC held a 3-1 lead through the first four innings of play before erupting for five runs in the top of the fifth to bring the mercy rule into effect. Aided by their late offensive flurry, A-Plus Collision Center finished with six hits and six walks against two Elk hurlers. Jarvis Lyttle (2 RBI) and Tristan Underwood (1 RBI) both tallied two hits to lead APPC at the plate, while starting pitcher Brayden Gentry (1 RBI) and Jarmaria Ridley each had one hit. -

Coming off a controversial loss to Nichirin three days earlier, the Elks (8-3) took out their frustrations on Marshall Medical Center (2-9) on Monday afternoon, as they rolled to a 13-3 victory in five innings to complete the sweep of the season series. Marshall Medical Center secured a third place finish in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League standings by defeating Nichirin 11-1 in four innings on Tuesday afternoon in their season finale. On Monday night, A-Plus Collision Center (10-1) officially dethroned the Elks as the champions of the Marshall County Babe Ruth League when they defeated a mistake prone Nichirin squad 9-1 in five innings to claim the 2014 title. After knocking off the second place Elks three days earlier, Nichirin looked to topple another title contender on Monday, but APCC quickly doused their upset hopes by building an 8-0 lead through the first three innings of play before coasting to their 10th win of the season. "It's a great feeling. These guys took care of business all year," said A-Plus Collision Center coach Mike Bailey. -
Vore's hole-in-one a much deserved present (Community Sports ~ 06/20/14)
Lewisburg's Allen Vore turned 91 years old on a rainy Saturday May 17, but he still played golf like he always does every day with the afternoon big group at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. On Sunday, Vore was teamed up with Karl Fisher, Willie Mitchell, and Mike Atkins, who witnessed the best belated birthday present of all for Vore when he aced the 170-yard, Par 3 fourth hole on the Ewell Butler Golf Course. "Allen will live off this for the rest of the summer," said his daughter-in-law Gayle Vore. "He is already on cloud nine."
