Rampage secures World Series crown (Community Sports ~ 08/01/14)
The 12U Marshall County Rampage went undefeated (6-0) at Ridley Park in Columbia on July 11 and 12 to capture USGFA Rec title, outscoring their opponents 52-8 in the tournament. The Rampage beat the D.C. Blaze 10-5 in the title tilt. "It was a great team victory," said Rampage head coach Jimmy Walls. "We made our routine plays, while the other teams didn't throughout the series." -
Dusters finish 4th at SE Regional (High School Sports ~ 08/01/14)
Having posted a 2-1 record in pool play, the Marshall County Dusters (27-13) had to settle for fourth place in the Senior Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament after suffering a pair of losses to the Mobile Rawdogs and Fairfax, Virginia in the double elimination portion of the tournament on Saturday in Andalusia, Alabama. Looking to defend their 2013 Senior Babe Ruth World Series title, the Rawdogs defeated the Dusters 10-0 in five innings en route to eventually claiming the Southeast Regional tournament championship. Marshall County was then ousted from the tournament when they dropped a 9-1 decision to Fairfax later that afternoon. -
Bulldogs hit practice field gearing up for the gridiron (High School Sports ~ 08/01/14)
After posting a 6-5 record last season and making the playoffs for the first time in three years, the Cornersville Bulldogs began to set their sights on the start of the 2014 football campaign this week when they wore full pads for the first time in practice. Entering his second season as CHS' head coach, John Denton believes that his team has become more comfortable with his practice regimen and has been able to build on last year's progress. -
Dusters advance to Southeast Region semifinals (High School Sports ~ 08/01/14)
The Marshall County Dusters advanced to the semifinals of the Senior Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament by finishing second in their pool last week at Andalusia, Alabama. Marshall County lost to Fairfax, Virginia 10-2 in their opening game of the tournament on Wednesday, but bounced back with a 9-5 victory over Startown Optimist, North Carolina on Thursday. The Dusters then wrapped up pool play by defeating tourney host Covington County 7-0 on Friday. -
Eagleville sweeps Cornersville (High School Sports ~ 08/01/14)
After posting winning records last year, the Cornersville Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs both started off the 2014 season with a loss when they were defeated by Eagleville on Tuesday afternoon at Champions Run Golf Course. Taking the top four rounds from six players, Eagleville finished with a team score of 181, while the Bulldogs shot a 191 overall. -

Coming off a disappointing 4-7 campaign, the Marshall County Tigers appear to have a more physical tone in practice this year under new head football coach Thomas Osteen when they donned full pads for the first time this season on Monday. Osteen served as an assistant coach at Giles County High School under David O'Connor from 2007-12, and helped the Bobcats achieve an unprecedented run of success on the gridiron. During that span Giles County posted an impressive 64-15 record and captured the 2009 Class 4A State title while reaching the semifinals of the playoffs on two other occasions. -

Henry Horton assistant golf professional Kevin Snell's defense of his Tennessee PGA National Car Rental Assistant Championship title turned into a three-man shootout Tuesday at Temple Hills Golf Club in Franklin with Nashville's McCabe Field Golf Course's Audie Johnson coming out on top by a slim two strokes. "That was good competition, Audie is a good player and I knew it was going to be a tough day with this north wind," said Snell. "I had a lot of long putts, I struggled with the putter and the irons, and I wasn't hitting them on line very good. I can't really complain, I shot one-under, but it was not good enough to catch Audie." -
