County budget enters the homestretch

County residents are invited to a public hearing on the budget to be held at 4 p.m. Friday, in Room 2209 of the Courthouse Annex, Lewisburg. Then, by law, 15 days must pass before county commission members can vote to pass the budget. Commissioners can thus vote on the budget at their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 22...

Although they could only take the top four rounds from six golfers, the Bulldogs (4-5) had five different players shoot their lowest scores of the 2014 campaign en route to posting a season best team score of 167. -

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (0-3) are still searching for their first win of the season on the pitch after suffering a 3-1 loss to the Huntland Lady Hornets at home on Thursday afternoon. Cornersville had beaten Huntland each of the last two years, but the Lady Hornets (1-3) turned the tables on CHS in Thursday's contest and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half before tacking on two more goals in the second stanza to open up a 3-0 advantage. -
Tigers conquer Hickman County at Skyview course (High School Sports ~ 09/03/14)
The Marshall County Tigers (12-3) defeated Hickman County on the links for the second time in three days when they beat the Bulldogs at Skyview Golf Club in Centerville on Thursday afternoon. MCHS had lost to Hickman County at Skyview each of the last two years, but the Tigers finally got the better of the Bulldogs on their home course by posting a team score of 164 after taking the top four scores from six golfers. -
Moore County tops Bulldogs (High School Sports ~ 09/03/14)
The Cornersville Bulldogs (0-2) came up short against Moore County on the gridiron for the fourth straight year when they lost 37-20 to the Raiders on Friday night at home. After CHS jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, Moore County (2-0) rattled off three straight touchdowns to take a 21-7 advantage into the break. The Bulldogs then scored TDs on their first two possessions of the second half to whittle the deficit to 28-20 late in the third quarter, but the Raiders pulled away down the stretch and tallied the final nine points of the contest on a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Spencer Reese and a safety to cement their 17-point victory. -
Cornersville Middle bludgeons Richland (High School Sports ~ 09/03/14)
After whipping Huntland 32-0 in the season opener a week earlier, the Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs (2-0) pitched their second straight shutout on Thursday night when they hammered the Richland Raiders 38-0 at home. The Bulldogs took Richland behind the woodshed early and raced out to a 32-0 lead in the first half before tacking on another touchdown in the third quarter to cruise to their second consecutive win over the Raiders. -

The Marshall County Tigers fought tooth and nail with Independence Friday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg, leading late in the third quarter before the Eagles scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to win 31-25. "We had a great opponent coming in here, there is no such thing as moral victories, we came here expecting to win, we prepared all week to win and it was the best we could practice all year," said MCHS head coach Thomas Osteen. "We were just two or three plays short and so hopefully that really ramps up what we can talk about all week about the detail to pay attention to on every play to win a big game, and hopefully we can handle this the best way and be better because of it." -
Rockets bounce back in Wartrace (High School Sports ~ 09/03/14)
After a 35-7 shellacking in Week Zero in Alabama, the Forrest Rockets showed some early season resiliency, travelling to Wartrace Friday night where they held on to beat Cascade 35-21, making first-year head coach Matt Kriesky's first victory a sweet one. "It's always great to get your first win, especially against a very good Cascade team," said Kriesky. "I am fortunate to have a great staff that works hard each day to prepare these young men for Friday nights. Also, we have a great group of young men that work hard for us each day and that makes the job a little easier. It takes a team effort each day and we all have to continue to do our part so we can be successful."
