LMS tramples tough Lipscomb (High School Sports ~ 10/01/14)
Wesley Walker made sure Lewisburg Middle School had a happy Homecoming on Thursday night, as the talented eighth grader turned in a tremendous all-around performance to help lead the Tigers to a 43-22 victory over the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs. Aided by three early Mustang turnovers, LMS (6-1) held a 20-6 lead late in the second quarter before Lipscomb Academy (3-2) scored a touchdown in the waning moments of the half to narrow the gap to 20-14 at the break. -
Rockets clinch spot in DRVC title contest (High School Sports ~ 10/01/14)
The FMS Rockets pounded Moore County 34-6 on Homecoming in Chapel Hill Thursday night to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season and with the win over the Raiders, Forrest clinched home field for the Duck River Valley Conference Championship game next Thursday night at "The Rock" versus Community. "It's a great feeling for the program, the school, and the community, because we haven't been in this game in a long time," said FMS head coach Bart Joyce. "I'm proud of the boys, I'm proud of the way they played and I'm proud of what they have accomplished, but there is still a lot more to accomplished and we are glad to be back in that game." The Rockets' two-headed monster struck again as Wesley McCoy and Nick McClendon combined for 257 yards rushing in the contest. -
Posey passes pace Tigers (High School Sports ~ 10/01/14)
The Marshall County Tigers extended their winning streak to four games with a big 42-7 win over Franklin County Friday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. Tiger quarterback Ashton Posey had a career night versus the Rebels, throwing for 417 yards and five touchdowns as the junior signal caller completed 16 out of 19 passes in the contest. MCHS took an early 7-0 first quarter lead before putting the game on ice, scoring four touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 35-0 halftime lead. -
Gutsy move falls short for Rockets (High School Sports ~ 10/01/14)
The 2A Forrest Rockets and 4A Page Patriots battled to a 16-16 regulation tie at the newly dedicated Murrey E. Holton Memorial Field in Chapel Hill on Friday night, but the Rockets fell 23-22 in overtime after Forrest unsuccessfully attempted to win their Homecoming game by going for a two-point conversion after their extra period touchdown. "I lost the game for the kids, I made some costly calls in the game, and put them in bad situations," said Forrest head coach Matt Kriesky. "They played their guts out and I am proud of each and every one of them. We had kids go down left and right, we had kids step up, and there is nothing we can ask, they did everything we asked them to do."
