CMS girls win, boys fall vs. Santa Fe (High School Sports ~ 11/26/14)
Coming off a loss to Minor Hill earlier in the week, the Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (7-4) bounced back on Thursday night by going on the road and defeating Santa Fe 40-27 to complete the season sweep of the Lady Wildcats. Santa Fe, though, evened the score in the nightcap when the Wildcats beat the Bulldogs 46-34 to record their second win over CMS this year. The Lady Bulldogs pounced on Santa Fe early and jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter on the strength of nine points from Gabby King and a Sarah Beth Prosser three-point play. -
LMS trounces Whitthorne (High School Sports ~ 11/26/14)
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers (4-1) snapped a two-game losing streak against Whitthorne by defeating WMS 48-25 in Columbia on Thursday night. Despite missing a number of easy shots underneath the basket early in the contest, the Tigers held a 14-9 lead at intermission before breaking the game open in the second half and outscoring Whitthorne 33-16 over the final two quarters to pull away for the 23-point victory. -

On Thursday night, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (3-2) defeated Whitthorne (0-7) for the fourth straight time when they traveled to Columbia and whipped WMS 29-8 behind a strong performance from point guard Demariae Ingram. On Friday night, the Cornersville Bulldogs fell to 0-3 on the young season when they lost 66-50 to the Moore County Raiders in Lynchburg. Having defeated Moore County 65-59 in their lone meeting last year, the Bulldogs only trailed 23-19 early in the second quarter before leading scorer Tate Lowery was forced to the bench with his third foul. -

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (0-3) are still searching for their first win of the season after dropping a 55-36 decision to an undefeated Moore County Raiderette squad on Friday night in Lynchburg. Cornersville stood toe-to-toe with the Raiderettes (5-0) early on and held a 20-18 lead late in the second quarter, but Moore County closed the first half with a 12-3 run to seize a 30-23 advantage. The Raiderettes then pulled away from the Lady Bulldogs in the second half and outscored CHS 25-13 over the final two quarters to claim their fifth straight win over Cornersville. -

The Marshall County Tigerettes travelled to Columbia Central Friday night and ran into a red-hot Lady Lions squad that sped off to a 77-47 coast-to-coast win over Lewisburg. After losing a one-point game at Shelbyville in their season opener, the MCHS Tigers found themselves in a big cat fight Friday night at Columbia where they led early before falling 65-55. "We just didn't do what we needed to do tonight, we didn't make enough free throws and some bad defense with no help hurt us," said MCHS head coach Arnett Bodenhamer. The Marshall County Tigerettes (3-5) bowling team had their two-match winning streak snapped on Monday afternoon when they were defeated 23-4 at Galaxy Lanes by a strong Columbia Central Lady Lion squad that finished second in the 2013 Class AAA State Tournament. Columbia also had the upper hand in the boys match, as the two-time defending Class AAA State champs defeated the Tigers 26-1 to run their record to 14-1 on the season. -

The FMS girls suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to the Lady Hornets before the Rockets came up with their 12th consecutive conference win to salvage the Franklin County split Monday night in Huntland. The Rockets served an early notice that there would be no letdown in their quest for an unbeaten regular season league record when they fired three consecutive long bombs by Josh Meglis, Ryley McClaran, and Ty Hengesbach to start the contest.
