On Saturday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (4-9, 2-3 District) lost to Santa Fe for the first time in six years when they dropped a hard fought 73-67 decision to the Lady Wildcats in overtime at home. After building a 47-36 lead through the first three quarters of play, Santa Fe (9-6, 4-1 District) still held a 58-51 advantage with :58 left in the fourth period, but the Lady Bulldogs made a late charge and closed regulation with a 10-3 run to knot the game at 61-61. -

The Santa Fe Wildcats (7-8, 4-1 District) notched their second straight victory over Cornersville (0-10, 0-5 District) when they defeated the Bulldogs 59-46 at CHS on Saturday afternoon. Aided by a strong second quarter performance, Santa Fe held a 28-18 lead at the end of the first half before opening up a 52-30 advantage early in the fourth period en route to claiming their seventh win of the season. -

The Lincoln County Lady Falcons (6-8) snapped the Marshall County Tigerettes' modest two-game winning streak on Friday afternoon when they defeated MCHS 53-33 in Lewisburg to sweep the season series. After losing to the Lady Falcons 53-26 in their previous encounter on Dec. 1, the Tigerettes (4-10) gave Lincoln County a tougher tussle this time around and trailed just 32-26 midway through the third quarter. -

Cornersville boys basketball coach Gerard Randolph gave his alma mater a scare for two quarters, but his Bulldog squad was unable to keep pace with Giles County for the entire game, as the Bobcats used a dominant second half performance to defeat CHS 70-36 on Tuesday afternoon at the Richland Christmas Classic. After dropping a hard fought 73-66 decision to Giles County the previous day, the Forrest Rockets (6-11) earned a split at the Richland Christmas Classic by defeating the Tullahoma Wildcats 83-74 last Tuesday in Lynnville. The Rockets got off to a fast start offensively and built a 46-36 lead through the first two quarters of play before keeping Tullahoma at bay in the second half to claim their sixth victory of the year. -

Following their impressive first round victory over Franklin, the Marshall County Tigers (8-6) fell into the loser's bracket of the Overton Christmas Tournament when they were defeated 67-48 by the Lighthouse Christian Lions last Monday before bouncing back with a 59-57 win over the Independence Eagles on Tuesday to earn third place in the tourney. "I was pleased with the way we played overall, but I want us to have the mindset that we shouldn't lose another game. I wanted to go 3-0 in the tournament, but I'll take 2-1," said MCHS coach Arnett Bodenhamer. -

After losing to Franklin 50-43 in the opening round of the Overton Christmas Tournament, the Marshall County Tigerettes (4-9) salvaged a fifth place finish in the tourney by defeating the Hume-Fogg Lady Blue Knights 43-29 last Monday before beating the Hillsboro Lady Burros 36-31 on Tuesday. "I was proud of them. After the Franklin game, we corrected some things and the girls played hard the next two games," said Marshall County coach Jerrie Henry. "I think these two wins will give the girls some encouragement and help their confidence going into the second half of the season." -

The FMS Lady Rockets moved closer to a first-round bye in the upcoming World Tournament, thanks to a convincing 33-21 win at Liberty Monday night. FMS got off the yellow bus to slow start, scoring just once in the first four minutes on a Stevie Ray basket, but the Lady Patriots could not take advantage as the FMS defense put the clamps on the home squad. -

The Marshall County Tigers (9-6) completed the season sweep of Lincoln County (4-10) on Friday afternoon when they defeated the Falcons 64-59 at home. Having crushed Lincoln County 74-42 in their previous encounter on Dec. 1, the Tigers appeared headed towards another comfortable victory after building a 40-24 lead early in the third quarter. -
FMS Rockets take DRVC title (High School Sports ~ 01/07/15)
The FMS Rockets started the New Year where they left off the old, continuing their domination with a 48-41 win at Liberty Monday night that clinched the regular season Duck River Valley Conference title. Forrest (17-4, 17-0) can cap off a perfect regular season conference slate with a win in Lynchburg Thursday night. The Rockets also clinched the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming World Tournament that commences Saturday in Chapel Hill.
