Lady Cats roll over Tigerettes (High School Sports ~ 02/03/17)
The Marshall County Tigerettes, coming off back-to-back District 12AA losses, entertained Class 3A Lawrence County Monday at Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium in Lewisburg and the Lady Wildcats (22-3, 8-1) handed Lewisburg its worst defeat of the season, 60-23. "They (Lawrence County) are good, they are 22-3 now and they are that for a reason," Marshall County coach David Steely said. "Losing that bad was disappointing, but we didn't come to play tonight, we didn't come with any intensity and we didn't give great effort on the floor." -
Tigers rest starters in loss to Lawrence County (High School Sports ~ 02/03/17)
Before the game, both coaches decided that with some tough district games looming it was in their best interests for both ball clubs to rest many starters in a non-conference matchup between Marshall County and Lawrenceburg at Lewisburg Monday night. Lawrence County came away with 64-56 win as Caleb Fields, Jay Howard, Tre Crutcher and D'Andre Brown all sat on the pine. -
Bulldogs beat Zion in non-conference contest (High School Sports ~ 02/03/17)
The Cornersville Bulldogs picked up a huge district win on Friday night over Culleoka, a team it had lost to early in the season and Monday night the Bulldogs had another chance to exact revenge for an earlier loss when Zion Christian came to town. The Bulldogs (7-12) lost to the Eagles (10-9) by 18-points despite leading the majority of the first half during an early season matchup in Columbia, but Cornersville has improved mightily in the meantime and handled Zion for the better part of the contest on the way to a 65-53 win. -
Lady Bulldogs crush Zion Christian Academy (High School Sports ~ 02/03/17)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs suffered three straight double figure losses against three district teams that with wins would have put Cornersville in prime position to take the number-one seed into the District 11A Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs bounced back since those losses with two straight district wins over Mt. Pleasant and Culleoka and welcomed winless Zion Christian to town Monday night. Despite having zero wins on the season the Lady Eagles surprised the Lady Bulldogs early, taking a brief lead two minutes into the second quarter before Cornersville finally put its foot on the gas and ran away with a 69-25 win. -
Tigers can't get over CPA dominance (High School Sports ~ 02/03/17)
One of the only accomplishments this senior Marshall County High School basketball class has not managed in its career is the gratification of beating Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA) in the past four years. After the emotional high of blowing out Giles County on a special night last Tuesday, the Tigers came out flat at CPA on Friday night, going into halftime down 20 points before a perfect second half set Marshall County up with a chance to beat the Lions. -
Tigerettes take CPA to the limit, fall 55-51 (High School Sports ~ 02/03/17)
Marshall County has proven time and time again during the season that they can play with the best Class AA has to offer, but going into Thursday night's game against #10 ranked CPA the Tigerettes had yet to win that signature game against high level competition. The Tigerettes seemed unfazed by the hostile environment at CPA, leading at the end of the first three quarters, but just like the first matchup versus the Lady Lions, Marshall County gave up a fourth quarter lead before falling 55-51. "They're a good matchup for us," MCHS coach David Steely said. "We didn't do a good job on the big girl (Savannah LeGate) tonight, she had 26 points but we're right there with them. They're a really good team, they've won 16 games now and are ranked in the state." -

Catfishing with your bare hands (Outdoors ~ 02/03/17)
Noodling, for the uneducated in such matters, is the art of using your hands to catch these big catfish. Yes, your hands are the primary tool for this style fishing. This method for fishing is practiced, for the most part in the southern states. In my research, I found out that it’s so effective that many states have made it illegal based on both angler safety and fish population concerns. It appears to only be legal in 13 states currently... -
