Marshall County stars shine over Giles County (Community Sports ~ 06/30/17)
Generally it does not matter if the sport is baseball or badminton, or whether the participants are high school seniors or second graders, anytime Giles County and Marshall County get together in any kind of competition the stakes are always high. The Marshall County 8U all-stars fought their way out of the loser’s bracket to face Giles County on Monday night and with a win, the chance to take home the district championship heading into the state tournament. -
King, Mealer selected to TSWA All-State squad (High School Sports ~ 06/30/17)
The 2016-2017 Forrest Lady Rockets came up one win short of claiming their third Class A state softball championship, but the runner-up finish did not overshadow an incredible season. “When you get a chance to sit back and reflect on the season, you say ‘Oh Golly’,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “With all that youth, for us to accomplish what we did just shows what good character this team had and what you can do if you just believe it can be done.” Forrest finished with a team record 41 wins against just six losses with two of the setbacks coming against defending state champion Meigs County in the winner’s bracket finals at the Spring Fling. -

Walter Thomas “Tommy” Hargrove, Jr., age 60 of the Mooresville Community, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at his residence. 8U All-Stars finish second (Community Sports ~ 06/30/17)
Marshall County took all the momentum and plenty of confidence into the winner take all 8U Cal Ripken District all-star championship game at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in Lewisburg Monday night. The Marshall County upstarts fought its way back from the loser’s bracket, which included a 15-0 walloping of Giles County less than an hour earlier The win set up a rematch between two longtime foes for the district championship. - Marshall County High School AP US History students visit Mr. Richmond, a 100-year-old World War II Veteran.
