Minor continues comeback with win over Mariners (Professional Sports ~ 07/07/17)
Chapel Hill’s Mike Minor continued his stellar comeback season with the Kansas City Royals as he moved to 5-1 on the season when Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to cap off 9-6 win at Seattle on Wednesday night. Minor pitched the ninth inning to get the victory before Kelvin Herrera threw the 10th for his 19th save. The Forrest graduate faced three batters in the ninth inning, inducing two fly ball outs and picking up his 45th strikeout of the season. Minor has appeared in 34 games for the Royals out of the bullpen this season and has a stingy 1.91 earned run average. -
Youth baseball headlines weekend in Lewisburg (Community Sports ~ 07/07/17)
All-Star baseball is in full force this weekend with four state tournaments beginning tonight in Lewisburg as the Marshall County Youth Baseball and Softball League hosts the Cal Ripken 6U, 7U, and 8U all-stars at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex. The Marshall County 6U all-stars open up pool play versus Clay County on Field 3 at 6:30 p.m. tonight with opening ceremonies to follow. The 6U boys play South Williamson at 2 p.m. on Saturday before bracket play commences. -
