A light in the darkness
(Features ~ 07/28/17)
Dear Heloise: When I travel, I take a night light with me, but I sometimes forget to pack it in my suitcase at the end of my stay and bring it home. On my last trip, I took two battery-operated, flameless TEA LIGHTS. I put one in the bathroom and one by my bed. They worked perfectly! Enough light to see, lightweight, easy to pack, and if you forget them, they’re inexpensive enough to replace. -- Dianne F., Ojai, Calif...

How to find and claim your family’s unclaimed money
(Features ~ 07/28/17)
Dear Savvy Senior, I’ve heard that there are free online search tools that can help people look for lost or forgotten money left behind by deceased relatives. Can you refer me? When my father passed away his financial affairs were in such a mess, I’m wondering if there was anything he left behind...

The Old Man - Knowledge
(Outdoors ~ 07/28/17)
Sam Kenton Stopped. The human figure was crouched at the side of the dusty road, with its head looking down between two bare feet that balanced him in an uncomfortable looking position; like two weathered pedestals supporting a wrinkled, handmade doll of an old man. Sam Kenton watched the figure as it studied the ground. He swapped hands with his fishing rod and the stringer of fish, and moved forward toward the wrinkled man sitting awkwardly in the dust at the side of the road...

Enthusiasm
(Column ~ 07/28/17)
“Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.” – 1 John 4:15,16 If you are a believer and confess that Jesus is the Son of God, then our verse says that God dwells in you and you “in God.” Interestingly, the word “enthusiasm” comes from two Greek words, “en” and “theos” (“in” and “God”). ...

The Awans and the investigation no one knows about
(Editorial ~ 07/28/17)
What if I told you Republican congressmen had used Russian IT people who were caught stealing data from the congressional servers and the FBI had raided one of the Russian’s houses and seized smashed hard drives? CNN would never stop talking about it. Bob Mueller would hire a whole new fleet of Hillary-donor lawyers to investigate. This would be the biggest scandal since Watergate. Bigger!...

Trump’s Real Media Angle
(Editorial ~ 07/28/17)
Unless you’re receiving the daily emails sent by Donald Trump and his team to supporters, you’re not getting the full dose of venom that is being directed at the nation’s news media. A recent email from Trump himself begins, “Friend, I’ve said it before and I will say it again: the Fake News Media is the real opposition.” He goes on to write that media are working “hand-in-hand” with “the Left,” resulting in “an unbelievable lack of journalistic integrity.”...

Turn Off D.C.’s AC to solve gridlock
(Editorial ~ 07/28/17)
I went to an outdoor event in Washington, D.C., last week. Boy, was it hot under the noon sun. It was so hot, I saw a mother swipe a Popsicle from her own child. I saw a Republican share an air-conditioned cab with a Democrat. I saw senators engage in civil conversation with each other so they could spend more time in their air-conditioned chambers...

Tennessee’s tax free weekend comes earlier this year, anticipating the coming start of school. “The sales tax holiday for back-to-school items is a way to put more money back into the pockets of Tennesseans” Governor Bill Haslam states.
