Letter to the Editor
(Local News ~ 09/08/17)
To The Editor There has been an announcement that the Home Economics classes will be eliminated from the schools in Marshall County – I have not heard about the shop classes yet, but I am sure that is next! When I was a student at M.C.H.S. we had the privilege of taking three years of Home Economics. Our teacher was very thorough in her instructions. In my home, my mother taught me the basics of sewing, food preparation and preservation, and some advice on decorating...

The Old Man
(Outdoors ~ 09/08/17)
The Old Man repositioned the wool scarf over his nose as the numbing lake wind found the holes in the makeshift cedar blind at the water’s edge. He blinked his eyes against the biting air and purposefully exhaled into the scratchy scarf, sending the warmth of his breath through the woolen fibers that were wrapped protectively around his neck. ...

(Column ~ 09/08/17)
“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” - 1 John 4:9, 10...

Network TV: Does it deserve to live?
(Editorial ~ 09/08/17)
I am tickled to continue my 43-year tradition of obtaining the Fall Preview “TV Guide,” but Associated Press TV critic Frazier Moore seems despondent about the state of the five over-the-air “legacy networks” (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CW). Like a parent tired of making excuses for slacker offspring, Moore insists the broadcast networks have surrendered to cable TV and streaming services, resigning themselves to cranking out safe, predictable, unimaginative “comfort food” programming (and presumably not re-filling the gas tank when they borrow the family car).. ...

DACA decisions shouldn’t equal amnesty for parents
(Editorial ~ 09/08/17)
President Trump made the right decision on DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that was illegally created by Obama’s pen. What Trump did was kick this issue back to where it belongs, the United State Congress. They are the ones tasked with passing immigration laws and this was an unlawful usurpation of an already existing law. The question now is what will Congress do?...
