Mistake-prone Rockets fall at Columbia Academy (High School Sports ~ 09/20/17)
The Forrest Rockets shot themselves in the foot Friday night in a tough Region 5A 14-6 loss at Columbia Academy. It was an even game as far as the competition on the field, but the Rockets gave the game away, failing to score twice inside the CA 5-yard line, missing a short field goal, and committing some really untimely penalties. “This feels like a broken record,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “This is the fourth time this year with penalties, penalties, penalties, penalties and not being disciplined.” -
Bulldogs beat Mt. Pleasant for third straight win (High School Sports ~ 09/20/17)
The Cornersville Bulldogs got knocked in the mouth early before turning it in on for a huge 42-20 comeback win versus Region 5A foe Mt. Pleasant at Frog Bottom Friday night. “We knew we were facing adversity in this game,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “These guys are hungry. Winning, it feels good to them. They willed their way to a win.” It was the third win in a row for the Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0), who took over the top spot in the region standings after seventh-ranked Fayetteville (4-1, 2-1) suffered an unpleasant 26-21 loss at Moore County. -
Tiger defense stops Panthers in region triumph (High School Sports ~ 09/20/17)
Marshall defensive coordinator Jerry Cobb spoke volumes with just one sentence following the Tigers (3-1, 2-0) contest with Maplewood on Friday night. "We got our first shutout of the season tonight," Cobb said. "It may have been just one half, but we'll take it." After giving up more points in the first three games of the season (89) than the Tigers allowed during the entire 2016 regular season (79), the blue and white defense that opponents have come to know and fear made a big comeback against Maplewood (3-2, 1-1) on Friday, holding the Panthers scoreless in the second half en route to a huge 26-12 region 4/4A win. -
