After a couple of weeks of banging helmets with region opponents that set the stage for the second half of the season, Week 6 is full of non-region games for all three Marshall County football programs. The Cornersville Bulldogs may be a surprise to many outside of the area and not getting any respect from the pollsters or pundits, but inside Frog Bottom the team is full of confidence and believe that they are now the favorites to win Region 5A, even if they don’t want to trumpet it. -

In defense of service dogs
(Features ~ 09/22/17)
Dear Heloise: I am a United States veteran. Having lost one leg and a hand while serving my country, I have a SERVICE DOG, Chip, who helps me and who I couldn’t get along without. People in my little hometown understand that my dog has to go where I go, but on planes, in airports, in businesses and doctor’s offices, I get some ugly stares or comments because of my dog. ...

Lipscomb University president fumbles “Cottongate”
(Editorial ~ 09/22/17)
It was only a couple of weeks ago, amidst the hue and cry over anything Confederate, that we were joking on the radio about how long it would be before cotton was considered racist. My producer, Johnny B, joked that aspirin would be regarded as racist since you have to pick cotton out of the top before you can relieve your headache. Absurdity is now reality...

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP) news service, researchers have found what they call a “broad-based cultural shift” in teen behavior. Writing in the journal “Child Development,” the authors reveal that today’s American teens are about THREE YEARS behind their counterparts from the 1970s when it comes to the average age for achieving certain rites of passage and trying “grown up” responsibilities and pleasures such as dating, sex, drinking, employment and driving...

She dwells at length on all the factors that constituted the perfect storm - including her own weaknesses as a candidate - but I find myself nodding in agreement about one in particular... -
