When an athlete heads off to college to start a new journey with a sport they have been playing for the better part of a lifetime, the first year is usually all about adjusting to a new environment and following an exact schedule. Unfortunately many athletes never make the adjustment and never come back after the inaugural campaign but for those who do, the sophomore season is usually the one which they reap the rewards for taking a year to learn the system while little playing time. That was exactly the case for former Marshall County soccer star Abbey Redferrin who played in just four games as a freshman for Freed Hardeman, but came back as a sophomore to play in all 18 games with the majority being starts. -
Frog Bottom ready for Falcons (High School Sports ~ 11/21/17)
The Bulldogs pulled through in double overtime against Huntingdon last Friday night in perhaps the best game ever played at Frog Bottom but as sweet as that victory was, Cornersville has a better matchup this Friday night. Lake County High School, from Tiptonville, will make the three hour and 37 minute drive to Cornersville with a berth to the 2017 1A state championship game in Cookeville on the line. -
Tigers focused on defeating unbeaten Greeneville (High School Sports ~ 11/21/17)
After gutting out a 29-22 come from behind win over Maplewood last week in the Class 4-A quarterfinals, the Marshall County Tigers take on an East Tennessee squad for the third year in a row with a spot in the BlueCross Bowl finals on the line. Marshall County lost to Knoxville Catholic in 2015 on the road and at home last season to Knoxville Central. -
Marshall County hopes third time’s a charm (High School Sports ~ 11/21/17)
The Marshall County High School Tigers will play in their third straight TSSAA State Playoff semifinal game after claiming a 29-22 victory over visiting Maplewood in the Class 4A quarterfinals on Friday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. Marshall County (10-3) travels to face undefeated Greeneville (13-0) on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. central time with a trip to the Class 4A state title game in Cookeville on the line. -
Bulldogs win double overtime thriller! (High School Sports ~ 11/21/17)
The 2017 Cornersville football season has been a season of extreme highs and great lows, a season that brought not just the football team together, but the entire small town in southern Marshall County. And with a missed extra point and a made extra point, a season filled with emotion was spilled onto the field following the 21-20 upset over Huntingdon, the number-two ranked team in all of 1A. -
