Rockets comeback big at Unionville (High School Sports ~ 01/24/18)
Pundits and predictors beware. The Forrest Rockets continued their magical mystery tour on Friday night when the Chapel Hill boys travelled to Community and came away with a gut wrenching 64-63 comeback win over the Vikings. “It’s hard to come to Community and win,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “You throw out records, you throw out scores, and you throw out whose playing. It’s us and them, we are 10 minutes down the road.” -
Lady Rockets beat Viqueens by a dozen (High School Sports ~ 01/24/18)
After an eight-day hiatus due to school closure because of the ice and snow last week, the Forrest Lady Rockets finally got a chance to take the floor and wash away the bad taste in their mouth from a sloppy defeat versus Nolensville on January 11. Forrest’s opponent was a familiar one at Unionville, where the Lady Rockets came up with a 66-54 coast-to-coast win over the Viqueens. -
Rockets beat Lewisburg, remain unbeaten in district (High School Sports ~ 01/24/18)
The Forrest Rockets and Marshall County Tigers took a trip in the way-back machine Monday at Chapel Hill as the intra-county rivals met in a regular season district game for the first time since 1972. It was an exciting game for the packed house as the two squads had a lot to play for and it showed with Forrest (8-12) notching a huge 76-63 comeback win to remain undefeated at 4-0 in District 12-AA play. -
Forrest beats MCHS in monumental match-up (High School Sports ~ 01/24/18)
Unlike the boys, the Forrest Lady Rockets and Marshall County Tigerettes have played sporadically since the Zero classification era of the early 70’s, but on Tuesday night at Chapel Hill it was different, much different as both squads were fighting for the top spot in the newly formed District 12-AA standings. Forrest prevailed 42-26 thanks to a big 17-4 fourth quarter that boosted Chapel Hill to the win. “I am extremely proud of them for last night’s game,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “They came out and got after it from the tip and never let down. Marshall is a good team, but a great defensive team. It took us a little bit to figure out ways to score, but during that time the girls played a great defensive game.” -

DEAR ABBY: Seeing a child you love struggle with depression is such a helpless feeling. Parents wonder how to talk to them as they withdraw from the people and activities that used to bring them joy. One year in, Trump remains his own worst enemy
(Editorial ~ 01/24/18)
When it came to a recent column about President Donald Trump’s preference for “executive time” that includes a healthy dose of cable news viewing and unhinged Tweeting, the reader wasn’t in the mood to hold back. “This article was just a pack of lies,” wrote a reader of the Mansfield News Journal in Mansfield, Ohio, where my column occasionally runs. ...

Washington is my only hope against Girl Scout cookies
(Editorial ~ 01/24/18)
I’m on a diet - a miserable diet - just as millions of Americans are during January every year. And to be successful, I want the federal government to intervene. We’re fighting an obesity battle in America, after all. Our capitalistic system has accomplished economic miracles across every area of our lives. However, regrettably, capitalistic efficiency has also produced an abundance of low-fiber, high-calorie, refined-sugar foods - which our bodies convert into instant chubbiness...

Wolff’s book resonates because Trump keeps confirming it (Editorial ~ 01/24/18)
Nobody is more stunned about the stratospheric sales of “Fire and Fury” than the guy who wrote it. Michael Wolff and I were talking backstage prior to his gig on Tuesday night at the Free Library of Philadelphia, and he confessed that he never saw it coming. He was convinced that he’d gotten the inside skinny about Trump’s den of dysfunction, but in our info-saturated ecosystem, with Trump under scrutiny 24/7, who could have envisioned 11 printings within 12 days of release?... -

Straight from the Tracks of Lynnville
(Local News ~ 01/24/18)
Greetings from Lynnville, Tennessee! The weather is like a bouncing ball, warm today and freezing cold the next and then even snow? It is probably time for us to experience snow and all older people would say, “Yes, we need a good snow to be on the ground a good week so the water will go into the ground.” We can all learn that the weather is controlled by Mother Nature and we have to take whatever she gives us in the form of weather...
