Become an official, stay connected to high school sports (High School Sports ~ 01/26/18)
They don’t make the headlines, their names are not in the box scores and they don’t make the all-star teams, but perhaps the most important individuals in high school sports are the contest officials. These individuals are so important that, in fact, there would be no organized competitive sports at the high school level without the men and women who officiate these contests every day across the country. -

Be safe with your valuables
(Features ~ 01/26/18)
Dear Heloise: When you’re traveling, it might be an appealing idea to put your valuables in a ROOM SAFE, but too many of the hotel employees have the master combination. It’s better to not bring valuables with you in the first place, but if you must, lock your valuables in the hotel’s central safe. Fewer people will be able to get to that safe. -- Don B. in Las Vegas...

Reign of error
(Editorial ~ 01/26/18)
It’s been quite a year, the exact reverse of that whole “time flies when you’re having fun” thing. These last twelve months have slogged by like cold molasses riddled with bat guano dripping through a tightly woven bamboo sieve. It seems like decades since Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States. Shouldn’t he be termed out by now?...

Stop misrepresenting the Statue of Liberty!

Man puts drinking problem on display in widow’s yard
(Features ~ 01/26/18)
DEAR ABBY: I’m a widowed senior who has been dating a very kind man, “Ben,” for three years. He’s retired; I am not. He does things for and with me, and we enjoy traveling together. The problem is, Ben usually starts drinking about 3 p.m. at the neighborhood bar. I’m welcome to join him, but I prefer to work at my job or volunteer in the community. By the grace of God, Ben has made it home safely every night, but I’m afraid he will eventually hurt someone...
