Rockets snap long losing streak versus Lions (High School Sports ~ 03/16/18)
Coming into Wednesday night’s contest at Columbia Central, the Forrest Rockets had lost seven straight games to the Lions dating back to 2002. The jinx is over thanks to some great pitching and timely hitting by the Rockets that resulted in a 4-2 win. “It was a great performance,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “It was good team effort, you can’t pick out one play or one pitch or anything like that.” “It was group effort of seven innings to win that ballgame and that’s what they did, we did some little things tonight to get the job done and I’m proud of the way the team played tonight.” -
Tigerettes off to 2-0 start after outlasting Columbia Academy (High School Sports ~ 03/16/18)
After stomping Richland 10-0 in their season opener at home on Monday, the Marshall County Tigerettes entertained Columbia Academy Tuesday night at Lewisburg and came away with a grind-it-out 2-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Columbia Academy had beaten the Tigerettes the previous four times the two teams met with Marshall County’s last win over the Lady Bulldogs coming via a 1-0 win in 2006, which was also the last time Lewisburg made a state tournament appearance. “It was a big win,” MCHS first-year head coach Wes Woods said. “CA is a very quality team and it was good to see good pitching and try to score some runs and do sometimes what it takes to win.” -
Haurez no-hits Richland in Tigers’ home opener (High School Sports ~ 03/16/18)
The Marshall County baseball team opened up the season Monday night in Nashville with a 16-7 win over Hume-Fogg with Nathan Derryberry picking up the win on the mound. The Tigers returned to Lewisburg for their home opener on Tuesday at Joe George Field and for the second consecutive night, the Marshall County (2-0) came out swinging hot bats and pitcher Hunter Haurez threw a masterful performance, finishing with a no-hit shutout in a 10-0 win over the Raiders. -
Lady Rockets off to 2-0 start (High School Sports ~ 03/16/18)
The two-time state champion Forrest Lady Rockets have started their quest for another big season and a return trip to the state tournament with a 2-0 record to begin the season.
