MMC rolls to 8-2 win over A-Plus (Community Sports ~ 06/20/18)
Marshall Medical Center (MMC) moved closer to clinching the Babe Ruth League title with a convincing 8-2 win over A-Plus in the opening game of Monday night’s doubleheader at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg. MMC (6-1) was boosted by strong pitching performances as Logan Courtemanche and Zack Graves combined on a four-hitter with both surrendering a pair of hits apiece and neither allowed an earned run in the contest. -
Elks pull off late night comeback (Community Sports ~ 06/20/18)
The Elks (5-3) pulled off one of the most dramatic comebacks in recent history as they trailed Nichirin 7-0 and 9-1 before stealing a 10-9 eight inning win in the Babe Ruth League twin bill nightcap at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg Monday night. Nichirin (2-6) starting pitcher Logan McKnight held the Elks in check over the first four innings, giving up just two runs on two hits, while striking out nine and walking two. -
James Lee "Jimmy" Beard (Obituary ~ 06/20/18)
James Lee “Jimmy” Beard of Manchester, formerly of Marshall County, TN, died Sunday, June 17, 2018, at his residence. Jimmy was a native of Bedford County, TN, born Aug. 28, 1970, son of Wayne Lee and Kathie McCollum Beard. He was a farmer. Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Cora Ann (Britt) Meeks of Huntsville, AL; brother, Johnny Wayne (Misty) Beard of the Wheel Community; sister, Joanne Beard of Lewisburg; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, also survive. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 5 p.m. in Round Hill Cemetery. The family will be at London Funeral Home Thursday from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for visitation. London Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
