The month long heat wave that has encompassed Middle Tennessee let up just a bit on Monday, much to the delight of the 46 high school golfers that participated in the District 11A-AA Tournament at the Buford Ellington Golf Course inside Henry Horton State Park. “It was a fantastic day from a weather perspective and a nice break from the overbearing heat we've been experiencing throughout the course of the month of September,” said Forrest coach and tournament director Andy Burkett. “I think the scores yesterday really reflected the nice weather, and I'm glad all players were able to take advantage of that.” -
Tigers bounce back with win over Panthers (High School Sports ~ 09/26/19)
The Marshall County-Maplewood rivalry has so far been a short but extremely competitive series, beginning with a 34-33 triple overtime thriller win by the Tigers in Week 9 of the magical 2015 season. Coming into Friday's matchup in Nashville, the Tigers (4-1, 2-0) held a 4-1 series advantage over the Panthers (1-4, 1-1) since 2015 and the 2019 game would prove no different as Maplewood held a 14-10 lead at halftime before Marshall County came out of the break on fire with a 19-0 third quarter en-route to a 35-20 win. -
Bulldogs blank Mt. Pleasant for third win in a row (High School Sports ~ 09/26/19)
The Tigers (2-1, 1-1) of Mt. Pleasant High School invaded Frog Bottom on a comfortable late summer evening to face the Cornersville Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) in a vital Region 5A battle. The Bulldogs, trying to push their winning streak to three games, showed a balanced offense and a stifling defense that shut down the Tigers 20-0. Cornersville rushed for 144 yards on 34 attempts and QB Jackson Farler completed 11-of-14 throws for 161 yards and one touchdown. -
Homecoming sweet for surging Rockets (High School Sports ~ 09/26/19)
Forrest entertained Loretto in Friday night’s Homecoming game at the Murrey E. Holton Memorial Field in Chapel Hill where the Rockets easily took care of business in the Region 5-AA contest via a 41-7 blowout win over the Mustangs to remain undefeated on the season. “It’s always great to get a Homecoming win, we came out ready to play and they didn’t let anything distract them,” Forrest coach Eli Stephenson said. “Homecoming week is always hectic around here, they came out focused, they are a mature team and they knew what to do.” -
