Tigers pressure Bulldogs in to loss at Mt. Pleasant (High School Sports ~ 12/18/19)
In the second game of the doubleheader Friday night at Mt. Pleasant, the Cornersville Bulldogs were looking for redemption after being handily defeated by the Tigers in their last meeting at Cornersville. It wasn’t to be as the Tigers (6-1) got double figures scoring from four players and a string of Cornersville turnovers in the third quarter easily handed the winless Bulldogs (0-6) a 69-38 loss. -
Lady Bulldogs finish off sweep over Mt. Pleasant (High School Sports ~ 12/18/19)
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs traveled to Maury County to face the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers Friday night in the second of two early season matchup of old foes. Alicia Polk poured in 23 points and the Lady Bulldogs came away with a sweep of the two-game series as Cornersville (2-4) took home a 57-50 victory. “I was nervous tonight being shorthanded, but we hustled and even when Fitzgerald fouled out, she was hustling to make plays,” Cornersville coach Martha Jane McMasters said. “Woodard had her best game and Polk played well. We never quit and I’m proud of the girls.” -
Tigers hold on for split with Central Lions (High School Sports ~ 12/18/19)
After a pair of road losses at Coffee County and Franklin County the Marshall County Tigers finished off the three-game road swing with a big 61-58 win at archrival Columbia Central Tuesday night. The Tigers had three players in double figures in the scoring column with Canelius Turner leading the way with 20 points, including five 3-pointers. Bryson Hughes also came up huge with 13 points and three treys and Devonte Davis had a solid game with 10 points. Silas Hurt was held scoreless for three quarters before tallying all eight of his points in the deciding fourth quarter. -
Tigerettes finish off sweep over Lady Lions (High School Sports ~ 12/18/19)
The Marshall County Tigerettes eked out an ugly 38-34 win Tuesday night at Columbia Central and they’ll take it as they extended their winning streak to six games over the Lady Lions in the decades old rivalry between the two neighboring county schools. “It was an ugly win, we gotta do better, and I gotta do better,” MCHS coach David Steely said. “We turned the ball over too much, that is our number one issue right now and we have to take care of it better.” “If we don’t turn the ball over we probably pull away and are up by 15 early, but we didn’t do that.”
