The Marshall County Swim Club was founded in 2004 offering an age-group youth program for children ages 4 to 18. The Swim Club is set up to accommodate beginners to more competitive swimmers. The Marshall County Marlins is a member of the R.A.C.E. League and compete in a series of meets throughout the season.
"While we do compete against other teams, each swimmer's main competition is against himself," said President Stephanie Bunte. "Personal best is an excellent goal. The most important goal is that the swimmers improve individually and have fun."
Bunte said the mission of the Marshall County Swim Club is to develop character traits, technical skills and intense desire necessary for maximum realization of each individual's potential.
"The team philosophy is encompassed in the words Courage and Determination," said Bunte. "Courage is the willingness to accept risk and endure failure. Determination is the backbone of success in any endeavor."
The Marshall County Swim Club is a volunteer-oriented program that relies heavily on the parents of the swimmers. Parent volunteer may serve as timers at meets, concession stand operators and several other activities needed to participate in a swim meet.
The Marshall County Marlins competed in their first meet of the season at the Shelbyville Recreation Center on Saturday taking on the Shelbyville Sharks and the Manchester Swim Club. The meet boasted 69 events, some with two or more heats, and provided an afternoon full of exciting competition. Swimmers competed in relay events and individual events from the backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly and free-style. Several Marlins placed first, second or third in the various events to make for a very successful meet for the Marshall County Swim Club.
This Saturday, the Marlins will host their first meet of the season at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. The swim club from Lawrenceburg will be the competition on Saturday and another big turnout is expected. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. at the indoor facility at the Lewisburg Recreation Center and several Marlins have their fins flapping in anticipation of swimming home with a ribbon.
