The 2006 Relay for Life banked a total of $42,730.83 and had plenty of fun in the process. Many teams came up with clever ideas to raise money for this year's Relay including a live country concert at the Dixie Theater, a cakewalk, breakfast fundraisers and a sock hop.

Fund raising efforts were continued at the Relay for Life's Relay night, which began on Friday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. and then wound down around 7:00 a.m. the next morning.

Many games and activities were planned throughout the night and morning to keep the walkers awake and on their toes. The Relay held its own version of Fear Factor and had each team design the latest fashions in paper towel chic.

The night also included a special ceremony to honor all of the cancer survivors, a luminary vigil to also honor cancer survivors as well as those who lost the battle against the terrible illness and a fireworks extravaganza.

"Everything was truly wonderful this year," said Relay for Life Director Michelle Head.

On Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m., Head proudly announced the final total along with the top three teams for dollar amount raised and spirit.

Top three teams for dollar amount raised: 1st place; First National Bank ($3,824.81), 2nd place; High Steppin' for a Cure ($3,760.13) and 3rd place; Wal-Mart ($3,703.25).

Top three teams for spirit: 1st place; Pioneers McCoy's, 2nd place; Marshall County Health Council, and 3rd place; First National Bank.
