AARP Senior Driving Course being offered again locally

Wednesday, September 6, 2006

A session of the current AARP Driver Safety Program was held Tuesday and Wednesday this week in the Community Room of First Commerce Bank. The participants taking the eight hour course were primarily members of the local Marshall Chapter AARP.

This course of training in driver safety for seniors had been taught here by volunteer instructor Milton Brown several years ago. Now another local volunteer instructor has qualified to present what formerly was entitled "55 Alive". The AARP Drivr Safety Program is the first and largest classroom driver refresher course especially designed for drivers 50 and older. Since the program began in 1979 over 8 million people have completed the course. Under Tennessee law drivers 55 and older who receive a course certificate are entitled to a reduction in their auto insurance premium.

The next Driver Safety Program class is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. October 17 an 18 sponsored by First Commerce Bank. Classes are limited to 25 participants and they need to register prior to the class date. To register for the October 17 and 18 class, call First Commerce Bank at 359-4322 during regular banking hours or tell the bank receptionist when you are at the main office. There is $10 fee for each participant payable at the first class meeting.

Sponsors will be sought for classes to be held in Chapel Hill and Cornersville in the future. Notice of these classes wil be given through the local media.
