CMS defeats Liberty 39-23, moves to 15-0
by Anthony S. Puca
There was no letdown Thursday night for the Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs after their impressive victory over Wayne County in the Holly Classic Championship game. The Lady Dawgs played a sluggish first half, but turned on the after boosters to defeat the Liberty Lady Patriots 39-23.
After a poor shooting first half, the Lady Dawgs turned up the defensive pressure cooker that they have become accustomed to and only allowed 10 second half points. The aggressive press caused Liberty to turn the ball over and the hard charging offense led by Amber Reeves' continual push up the floor resulted in a 25 second half outburst for the undefeated girls from Cornersville.
The Lady Dawgs were led by Haley Fagan who had 18 points (2 three pointers) and Reeves, who had 11 points with one three point basket. The CMS team also shot 50% from the free throw line (6-12) in the home court victory. Liberty was led by Katie Ester with 8 and Morgan Cunningham with 7 points.
The Lady Bulldogs are now just five games away from completing a perfect season and travel to Bridgeforth on January 8 before coming back to Bulldog Country for homes games versus Huntland and Elkton.
