The Five Points Volunteer Fire Department has received a federal grant enabling the department to purchase safety equipment.
One of the primary upgrades for Five Points, using a portion of the $78,829 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant is for personal protection gear. It cost approximately $1,550 to outfit a fireman including basic pieces such as fire suits, pants, coats, boots, gloves and suspenders. A self contained breathing apparatus cost an additional $3,500.
